Bitches   Mrs. Meredith Johnson-Snyder USA
I would like to thank the Humberside Cavalier Club committee for inviting me to judge my first championship show in the UK. I would like to give special thanks to my hosts Alastair and Ruth Mochrie for their hospitality. I enjoyed my day tremendously even with the heavy rainstorm that caused the ring to partially flood for a time and some Cavaliers to be uneasy with the rain hitting the roof so hard and the lighting in the building being so temperamental in the storm. I felt right at home as it has done nothing but rain for two months in my area of the U.S. I was very pleased with the quality of the bitches exhibited. Coming from my original background as a judge of all herding, working, and some sporting (gundog) breeds, and now as a breeder of Cavaliers, I am always concerned with construction as well as breed type and believe that one can find both in the same package. I am concerned with some of the problems we are seeing, on both sides of the pond, in front and rear construction leading to problems in movement and soundness that we are seeing in the States and that I saw in some of the Cavaliers I judged at Humberside. I see a trend for dogs to lack forechest, proper depth of body, adequate length of ribcage, and adequate layback of upper arm matching layback of shoulder angle. I see a trend to steep croups and longer hocks which influence the rear movement in our Cavaliers. I realize that our breed is a toy breed and bred as a companion lap dog , but do believe that proper construction and soundness are important in our breed as well as the nuances of breed type so necessary, especially the wonderful outgoing temperament and the head properties called for in the breed standard. I was delighted with the many bitches who exhibited excellent breed type as well as sound construction. I was pleased to agree with my co-judge, Mr. Alan Hall, in awarding BOB to his CC winner, the glamorous Judyland Touch of Magic, bred and owned by Mrs. Drewett.

Best Puppy Waters' Maibee Delores
Minor Puppy (26 entries) This was a lovely class with several puppies being in the running for placements. My class winners all exhibited excellent type and construction.
1 Waters' Maibee Delores
Blenheim. Lovely type little girl with good bone and substance, filled with herself today, with a lovely shaped head, beautiful eyes and expression, especially when she used her ears when she wasn't being naughty. Deep chestnut markings with lovely quality of coat, well made with good prosternum, neck and shoulders, good ribbing, and well constructed rear, short hocks, correct croup, resulting in good sound movement all the way around, carrying a good topline and tail carriage as she gaited around the ring with a great attitude. Good proportions and very balanced. Presented a lovely picture standing and moving. She went on to Best Puppy in Show.
2 Fox's Pamedna Cara Mia
Blenheim. Well made with good angulation, balanced, good bone and substance, with lovely head and expression, movement good but needs to settle a bit. Good outline of body and very pleasing to the eye, just not quite the package today as the first place.
3 Lymer's Lymrey Hi Falutin
Blenheim. Cannot help but comment on this little girl and her litter sister who placed fourth. Both of these puppies are well made and very attractive. Just need to settle a bit which will come with a bit more maturity. Lovely type to both of them with very pretty heads.
Puppy (31)
1 Lymer's Lymrey Hi Jinks
Blenheim. Seven months old, this girl as well as her litter mates in the previous class has loads of quality. Beautiful, full bodied, girl with most expressive head, lovely coat, good front with well laid back shoulders, good rear with little hocks and good drive, nice to go over and nice to watch going around the ring with sound movement and good topline. One to watch in the future.
2 Levy & Sedgwick's Pascavale Kristle
Blenheim. Almost a year old, another lovely girl from this kennel, beautiful, generous head, lovely expression and eyes. Very typy but not as free moving as #1 today with not as much rear drive, probably just a stage as she is a lovely package with great breed type and should do very well.
3 Name Withheld Name Withheld

1 Turnbull's Peakdowns Caprice
Blenheim. One and one half year old, very typy girl, nice size with beautiful pigment, silky coat, lovely head and expression, well marked and very glamourous, good angulation and good movement, floated around the ring with good reach and drive. Very feminine. Well made little girl who should do very well indeed. Lots to like about this girl.

Blenheim. One and one half year old, sweet little girl, good mover, carried good topline with good reach and drive. Slightly more generous head than #1 with lovely eyes and expression. Nice to go over.
3 Jones' Timsar Tri My Best
Novice (28)
1 Shinnick's Leelyn Essence
Black & Tan. Ten month old well made girl of good type and construction. Nice size. Head needs to fill in, but lovely eyes and head shape. 2 Smith's Salador Gilva Candy
Blenheim. Very pretty nine month old girl, very typical of her breeder. Lovely head, eyes, and outline of body. Needs to tighten up in front movement, but very typy package.
3 Towse's Miletree Street Ballet
Graduate (15) The first two bitches in this class were of most excellent type and construction. Very hard to chose between them, but the first place girl could not be denied today as she gaited around the ring as if she owned it and loved every minute of it
1 Towse's Miletree Miesque JW
Blenheim. Two and one half year old. Excellent type and construction. Ideal size. Very feminine and pretty head framed by beautiful long ears accentuating her melting expression. Outline of body was all one could ask for, she just flowed around the ring. Sound coming and going. Very well presented. A real show girl who could not be denied in this class and went on to RCC.
2 Lymer's Lymrey Sweet Dream
Blenheim. Another girl of lovely type typical of this breeder. One and one half year old well made feminine bitch, lovely head and expression with beautiful eyes. A little longer in body than the first girl, but carried herself well and moved very soundly. It was a toss up between these two girls.

1 Jones' Timsar Miss Fortune

2 Inglis' Craigowl Clara Vale
Tricolour. Lovely heavily marked girl of two and one half with the most beautiful expressive face. Good topline and way of going around the ring, needs to tighten a bit in front, and body down a bit. Very nice type.
3 Johnson's Valanroy Felicity
Veteran (11) Hard decision between these two wonderful mature girls. Both looked super as they enjoyed their day out.
1 Hogan's Ch. Ricksbury Camilla at Stravonga
Blenheim. Eight and one half year old and still as full of herself as when I watched her as a young bitch. Beautiful breed type who has held up well. Super show girl, well made, very balanced, four good legs, and smashing as she went around the ring with such reach and drive and style. The typical head and expression one would expect from her breeders. Very pretty in her full coat. Went on to Best Veteran.
2 Taylor's Ch. Rosscrea Memphis Belle
Blenheim. Equally beautifully made girl, eight years old, as first place; super movement, topline, and soundness and balance. In lovely coat and condition, a bit different in head type as first place, but still lovely expression. Two first class girls.

One and one half year old, well marked and well made, cobbier body than #1, lovely coat and very pretty head, good on go around with good topline and tail carriage, not as sound today as first place, but very nice package, just needs to tighten up. Time on her side.
