Dogs. Mrs C Ackroyd-Gibson
I wish to thank the committee for the fabulous care and attention that was lavished upon my co-judge and myself. It made the whole judging experience one that I will never forget. Overall the quality of the dogs was mixed and at times a little disappointing. The same faults re-appeared with alarming regularity; these being eye shape and colour, poor front assembly coupled with slab-sided ribcages and pinched hindquarters. I also noted that trimming of the feet appears to be considered the norm. Tidying up the feathering under the pad is acceptable, but when it looks like hedge-clippers have been used, the result has to be that the exhibit is penalised! All my winners were worthy representatives of the breed.

Veteran (14 entries, 6 absent)
1 Steel's Astralea Classic Gold of Behabre
8 ½ yr blen. Super head and expression with excellent earset; first-rate eyes, large, dark and well spaced. Nicely put together . Just the right size .Moved very gaily and won this class on his movement.
2 Barwell's Ch. Charlottetown Trueman
Thought this wonderful 8 yr blen was my winner. Lovely masculine head, well marked silky coat, excellent pigment, beautiful shape and outline when standing, but very sadly lame on the day. A very worthy champion.
3 Payne's Ch. Myhope Fever

Minor Puppy (19, 4)
1 Inglis' Craigowl Frank N Furter
I loved this puppy only 6 months old but with such style and self-assurance. Wonderfully schooled, he moved round the ring with such accurate movement. Standing he showed off his excellent clean lines as he continuously wagged his tail for his handler. He did not disappoint on the table. Lovely head correct for age, excellent construction, beautifully presented. A very promising puppy. Best Puppy Dog
2 Fry & Jackson's Amantra Immanuel
7 month blen. Same remarks apply to this puppy as 1. Exceptionally soft, melting expression. Well cushioned under eyes, good mouth, large round dark eyes. Well angulated but no as positive on the move as 1. Another exciting prospect.
3 Wiggins' Whyteplace Nathan
Res Grant's Granasil Kennady
VHC Roberts' Pauroi Cool Touch
Puppy (13)
1 Lymer's Lymrey Hi Command
Mature, 9 month blen. Larger than I like at this stage but could not be denied his place for his overall correct construction and movement. Kept a level topline at all times, strong and well muscled quarters, covered the ground easily. Top quality coat with well feathered ears completed a very pleasing exhibit.
2 Rogerson's Rabymar Apollo
11 month black & tan . Super size, well balanced dog. Gentle expression, well cushioned under the eyes which were round and dark. Good bone, well laid back shoulders, correctly angulated hindquarters. Handler had to work very hard to keep this pups interest but he should persevere, as he is a promising example.

Junior (9, 1)
1 Rix & Berry's Ricksbury Royal Hero
Heavier marked, richly coated blen. Good sized exhibit with excellent bone without being coarse. Well set ears with plenty of feather frame an attractive head with first-rate pigment. Good length of upper arm and well laid shoulders allowed a free-moving action that covered the ground well. One to watch.
2 Salisbury's Clopsville Jack Daniels
I really liked this 17 month Black & Tan. Outstanding head that is now seldom seen in the whole colours with large round eyes, correct stop, well set ears. Smaller than 1 and not as mature in the body but so well made. Beautifully presented. Good front, nice bone for size, good layback of shoulders, short hocks. Moves very confidently around the ring his only 'if' being his slight high tail carriage - but a quality exhibit overall.

Special Yearling (15, 2)
1 Bubb's Wandris Entertainer
Super moving blen caught my eye immediately. So impressive on the move and standing. Beautifully marked full coat, masculine head, good earset, wonderful crested neck leading to a firm, well muscled body. Correct amount of bone. Fabulous picture of a dog from the tip of his jet black nose to his ever wagging tail. Can't be long before he becomes a champion.
2 Inglis' Craigowl Billy Elliot
Tri dog who I have heard a lot about and who doesn't disappoint. So unlucky to come up against 1. Heavier marked tri but his markings only serve to accentuate his clean lines and correct conformation. So accurate on the move, never gave up showing for a minute. Just needs a little maturing in the head and then he should fulfil his considerable potential.

Graduate (10, 2)
1 Boardman's Volney Super Sleuth
Blen who doesn't jump out at you as the obvious winner but whose qualities nevertheless gave him this well-deserved class. Correct head, well cushioned under the eyes, nicely tapering muzzle, clean lips. Nice length of neck leading on to well laid shoulders and short coupled loin. Well boned for size. Moved steadily round the ring but without much animation.
2 Town's Barsac Wee Swallay
Very promising tri. Softest head and expression with rich tan and dark eyes. Nicely constructed and moved well round the ring. Just needs to mature and drop into his frame to reach top honours.
3 Baker & Park's Keyingham Zacharias
Res Rennard's Deranmar Michael
VHC Forrester's Honeybet Designed for Salbrie
Post Graduate (16, 2) A super class.
1 Li's Avalcier Alessandro
It was incredibly hard to separate these two top quality exhibits but eventually a hair-spitting decision was made. Short coupled well coated blen with masculine but expressive head. Nice front, well boned, good layback of shoulder and tail carried well. Great animation on the move but nearly threw it all away by ignoring his handler when standing.
2 Hughes' Loranka's Jubilation
Same remarks apply - a superb quality Cavalier. Just tended to spoil his topline when standing by throwing his head back.

Special Mid Limit Blen & Tri (9, 0)
1 Inglis' Craigowl Jarrow
Super sound tri dog commanded attention in the ring moving with drive. Stood foresquare on well boned legs giving an impressive outline. Good angulation and shoulder layback accentuated by the flattering markings. Nice head but would prefer eyes a little darker.
2 Waddington's Spindlepoint Chancellor
Clean cut, very smart blen. Beautifully presented well broken silky coat, excellent pigment, good mouth, crested neck. Moved very positively, but would prefer a slightly shorter loin. Overall an excellent exhibit.

Res Baker's Nevhill's Roosevelt
VHC Barraclough's Ricksbury Royal Revolotion of Juette
Special Mid Limit B/T and Ruby (13, 2)
1 Hughes' Loranka's Starstealer
Ruby dog that came very close to stealing top honours. Top quality exhibit that oozes class. Good size, excellent bone, rich professionally presented coat. His head is without doubt the best of any wholecolour that I have ever judged and could easily be used to illustrate the breed standard in any of the 4 colours. Coal black nose and large dark eyes complete the picture. Moved very steadily round the ring. Very unlucky today to come up against my CC and RCC winners, who are physically in their prime. Shouldn't be too long before he gains his crown.
2 Potter's Rheinvelt Rock DJ
Very masculine B/T who was very reluctant to show off his attributes. Nicely made and moved OK. Not the head quality of 1. Well presented.

1 Lymer & Scheidt Lymrey Hi Octane
What an apt name for this supercharged blen dog. Handler frequently had to apply brakes to prevent him from losing control! Beautiful classy dog, Super outline, wealth of rich, silky coat and feathering. Classic head piece, good neck and shoulders, lovely spring of rib. When he got his act together moved accurately and with drive. Close up for top honours
2 Li's Avalcier Atomic Blaze
A favourite of mine. Classically made blen with clean cut markings. Coat in superb condition and beautifully presented as where all dogs from this kennel. Soft expressive head, good mouth, correct earset, exceptional pigment. Reachy neck leading to well angulated shoulders. Good spring of rib, level topline. Just tended to move close behind on occasions when his exuberance got the better of him.

1 Levy & Sedgwick's Pascavale Ryan
Lovely sized dog with class. Well marked and broken, silky coat with good feathering. Sweet well cushioned head. Dense pigment, eyes a little lighter than I prefer but large and well spaced. Excellent neck and shoulders. Kept a level topline and good tail carriage at all times. Extremely good hindquarters enabled him to move smartly round the ring. Have seen him with more sparkle.
2 Dolamore's Ch. Ricksbury Royal Edition of Crystaldean
Very different type to 1. Bigger but not in any way coarse. Well marked head and body. Good pigment. Correct mouth, large round dark eye, straight front, good spring of rib. Moved with style. A very worthy champion.

Special Open Bred By Exhib (7, 1) A class well worth the wait. Occasionally in dogs you come across a dog which although not perfect, fits your interpretation of the standard. In this class I found two dogs. Admittedly of different types, but both of them excelling in the qualities I admire. I found it very hard to stop smiling as I watched my winners going round the ring as they showed their excellent qualities off.
1 Levy & Sedgwick's Pascavale Enchanted
Cavaliers are a toy breed and this dog epitomises the qualities of a toy spaniel. Small but beautifully formed, he screams extreme quality. His head is 'enchanting', his body is firm and well angulated, his temperament is calm but attentive. To top it all he has a wealth of silky coat and featherings that from the ringside can make him seem short in the leg but in reality are well boned and are in proportion to his body. I was absolutely delighted to award him the CC his third and BIS.
2 Angell's Ch. Charwelton Valentine
I have never seen this dog look as good. He was so full of himself that his handler found it hard to keep up with him as he moved with great panache around the ring. Very correctly made with rich coat and dense pigment. I was splitting hairs with 1, but in the end I just preferred the head of Enchanted. No disgrace to win the RCC in such hot competition today.

I was honoured and delighted to be asked to undertake this exciting assignment. A very high quality entry awaited me, and I enjoyed every minute of the day. I had enormous help from my stewards and the rest of the committee, and I thank them for this. It makes all the difference when you have a happy, efficient and compatible ring management team. There was a very warm, friendly atmosphere all day. Generally nose pigment was not at its best, but presentation and handling was of a high standard. I thank the exhibitors for their very good entry and their sporting attitude.
