I was asked to judge in place of Mrs Joan Reed who, unfortunately, was unable due to illness, to carry out her judging appointment. I wish her well.
It was an absoloute pleasure to have Ellis Hulme as my co-judge as he is one of my favourite people in dogdom. We were in total agreement on our BOB and Best Puppy putting the lovely bitch Ch Aranel Electra BOB and it was a thrill to watch her win a Group place.
Two years since I last judged males and little has changed. One or two nice ones but very little depth of quality – not good for the future. Many heads were what I consider incorrect according to the breed standard, having big bulbous cheeks, high foreheads and rounded skulls!!!!!!!! Admittedly, they can be very ‘cute’ to look at but incorrect nonetheless! Was pleased to notice I had all 4 colours in my line up.

Veteran (2 Entries 0 Absent)
1 Lewis’ Ch Daraste Refection Of Love
7½ year old blenheim in excellent coat and condition. Very good body, pretty head with lustrous eyes. Moved well fore and aft keeping a level topline. In a day and age when everyone wants a flyer, it was pleasing to feel he was still worthy to be short listed for further consideration. A credit to his breeder.
2 Cockburn’s Evonola Talk Of The Town at Phylmars
9 years old, again in sparkling condition. Well marked, richly coloured coat. Still showing like a young un. Not so positive behind or in topline as the winner.
Minor Puppy (16, 6)
1 Blackburn’s Bekenveldt Serge Diaghilev
6½ month old blenheim baby of such promise. Pleasing, gentle, correct head with dark eyes and good bite. Classy, well marked profuse coat. Particularly good in forechest. Happy, outgoing temperament. Liked his size. A very promising puppy. Will watch his progress with interest.
2 Hill & Webber’s Montcolly Bowie
8 months old. Extremely pretty headed ruby with the most glorious head, eyes and jet black pigment. Good colour and excellent size. Not so well angulated fore and aft as the winner.

10 month old tricolour. Very classy, striking youngster with all the essentials to go on to top honours. Masculine head with dark expressive eyes, skull almost flat between the ears. Good tan mixed on a well marked background. Well laid shoulders and a short coupled body. Moved positively with lots of style, with the best hind movement of the day. Considered shortlisting him but he has time on his side and I’m sure his day will come. Best Puppy Dog and with full agreement from my co-judge, BEST PUPPY IN BREED
2 Vella’s Cinderlace Rodrigo
Another quality youngster. Blenheim with attractive, correct head, dark eyes, very clean cut markings. Liked his size. Needs to mature in coat but has plenty time.

Good neck and shoulders into short coupled body and strong hind quarters. Good size and bone. Moved well both ways. Liked this dog very much and short listed him for the CC but in the challenge just lost the sparkle he had in his class and went a little soft in profile on the final round.
