Dogs. Mrs M Milton
The West of England Club celebrated their 40th championship show with a “Ruby Anniversary” event which was most enjoyable and I would like to thank the committee for this invitation, it was a very friendly day. Thanks also to my two stewards, Richard Cornaby and Chris Knapp with special thanks to Richard who kept me on my toes and successfully guided me through the day.
I was more than a little disappointed with the quality in cavalier dogs at the moment. In some of the middle classes the dogs were far too big or the other end of the scale too small. Eyes are a problem too many are light or small. Shoulders seem to have improved. The best two classes of the day were limit and open. Here the dogs had much more quality and were of a more even and correct size.
Mrs. Coaker, my co-judge and I had no problems agreeing joint decisions. BOB, went to the dog Ch. Wandris Entertainer a lively five year old.
Res. BIS and BPIS went to two delightful blenheim bitches, epitomising cavalier type and true toy spaniel size. BVIS went to a small neat b/t bitch with very similar virtues.

1 Hughes’ Ch Loranka's Celebration
Richly marked Blenheim. Pretty head, gentle expression. Moved well keeping a good top line and tail carriage, good bone and substance.
2 Koster’s Harana Sinatra
Lovely expression on this richly coated ruby. Shapely with good top line and tail carriage. Good round bone. His movement let him down today.
3 Jackson’s Ch. Amantra Cloth of Gold
Res Lewis’ Ch Daraste Reflection of Love
VHC Royce’s Turretbank Tartan Teddy at Rucazan
Minor Puppy (15, 5)
1 Li’s Avalcier Nemesis
6½ months well broken blenheim. He is young so at a very raw stage. Longer muzzle than some which should give him plenty of scope to develop in head. Dark eyes. Good depth of pigment, well placed ears, long leathers with profuse feathering. I liked his overall shape, substance and size, giving him a balanced out line. Good front, nice round bone, good top line and tail carriage. Coat has a good feel. A neat little puppy. Moved well. BPD
2 Blackburn’s Bekenveldt Serge Diaghilev
8½ months blenheim, pretty head, soft expression. Overall very similar to 1 if slightly bigger and longer cast. Good coat, top line and tail carriage. Moved well.

Puppy (16, 3)
1 Hazeltine’s Juzandia Puff Daddy
Nearly 12 months compact b/t, glorious straight black coat with tan markings. He moved well, striding out positively keeping a level top line and good tail carriage. He has a sweet expressive head with nice eyes and tapered muzzle, which does not need any more work. A whole colour I shall watch with interest.
2 Hill & Webber’s Montcolly Bowie
9½ months elegant, richly coloured ruby. Large dark eyes with tapered muzzle. A shapely dog with good bone, moved well. Another to watch.

1 Fry & Jackson’s Amantra Stagehand
13½ months’ shapely blenheim, appealed for his overall balance. Good eye shape and colour. Head still developing. Straight front, good top line and tail carriage. Moved O.K. if a little less positive behind.
2 Lymer & Scheidt’s Lymrey Hi Performer
14 months’ blenheim that showed well despite not being owner handled. Pretty expression, my notes say reminds me of Lymrey Hi Octane. Good head carriage, neck and top line. Well constructed, moved well. I hope he doesn’t grow on.

1 Wiggins’ Whyteplace Alonso
Richly marked blenheim with good head carriage, level top line and good tail carriage. Presents a balanced outline. Nice eyes set well within the skull, good pigment and well placed ears. He just needs a little more fill in face to complete the picture. Typical cavalier temperament.
2 Gardiner & Dansage’s Edonhill Blaze Away JW
Glamorous tri in abundant coat of a silky texture. Jet-black markings set off with patches of white of excellent clarity. Structurally very sound but slightly larger and longer than I like. A more generous head but a sweet, soft expression nonetheless. Both moved well.

Lightly marked blenheim with a sweet, expressive head, enhanced by his high set ears framing it to perfection. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders, level top line and good tail carriage. He is slightly larger and longer than I really like but a dog that moved well and has a great deal of appeal.

A blenheim with very large eyes, black pigment and well set ears. Nicely crested neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Good angulation and an excellent mover with a good driving action from his strong hocks. In good condition.
2 Fry & Jackson’s Amantra Vaudeville
Slightly smaller blenheim, not quite the eyes of 1 but a shapely dog with a good reach of neck, level top line and good tail carriage.

A glamorous blenheim with rich chestnut markings. A shapely, well constructed dog with good reach of neck and well laid shoulders. Level topline. Moved stylishly with good reach and drive from behind. Masculine head with moderate stop, ample cushioning, giving that soft gentle expression. Good pigment and mouth and a wealth of feathering on the ears. A very nice cavalier.

1 Boardman’s Volney Gazpacho
A balanced, pleasing ruby of good type. Compact, good spring of rib, level top line and tail carriage. Strong round bone. Generous head, large dark eyes, good pigment and a substantial amount of ear feathering. A nice dog. He does sparkle at times, just finds it hard to sustain it.
2 Jones’ Caedrenant Griffin
Richly coated, nice head, good pigment. Presenting a balanced outline. Good bone, top line and tail carriage. Moved O.K.
3 Mynott’s Honeybet My Way
Res Lunam’s Malanis Mystic Moment
VHC Gamble’s Llefelys Blaze of Glory from Lisgarth
Special Mid Limit B/T (8, 0)
1 Koster’s Dortmund Take A Chance Harana
Balanced b/t presenting a good outline from his good reach of neck, shoulders and top line. Good depth of brisket, good bone and straight front. Typical head, large dark eye and pigment. He needs coat to finish the picture.
2 Shone’s Cobalatino Candyman
A smaller and different type altogether. A shapely b/t in a silky black coat. Good top line and tail carriage. Good bone for size. He appeared sulky, dropping his ears. There is a gentleness about his expression but it was difficult to assess all its qualities on the fleeting interest he paid to his surroundings.

1 Jones’ Timsar Mister Moonlighter
This dog really skates on thin ice, he was in danger of losing this class. It seems to take a moment or two for him to remember why is here. I like the balance of this dog. One doesn’t have to ponder is he too short in leg or too long, he is just right. Large, round, lustrous eyes, good pigment, mouth, well feathered ears set high, giving him a soft, deliciously gentle expression. He eventually showed his effortless movement, carrying his head proudly, keeping a level top line and tail carriage. A very typical cavalier. He needs now to come into full coat and bloom, this was slightly lacking today but he certainly deserved on this showing the Res.CC.
2 Hughes’ Loranka's Enchanting JW
A lovely tricolour with rich tan and a coat with a jet black gloss and amazing clarity. He has the most gentle expression. Eyes, large, round, dark. Ears are well feathered and frame his head to perfection. A compact and balanced little dog. He held a great deal of appeal and it was a difficult decision between 1st and 2nd. I hope his third and deserving CC will come soon. Just not his day today.

1 Bubb’s Ch Wandris Entertainer JW
My first impression was balance. A typical head without exaggerations. Eyes large, dark and lustrous, good pigment, wide nostrils, high set ears with plenty of feathering, enhancing further his overall appeal. At 5 years he was still looking great and easily more than equal to the competition of much younger dogs. A real show stopper. Suffice to say he is extremely well balanced. He has substance without coarseness, round bone and consequently neat feet. He moved extremely well, possibly the best in this class or even the whole day. So often when one admires a dog from the ringside, there is the possibility they will disappoint on closer observation but in this instance it was not so. It seems I have joined a long line of judges who have found him worthy of top honours, it was a pleasure to award him the CC. I am told it was his 33rd and he now equals the breed record. Congratulations.
2 Aldous & Smith’s Ch Aranel Cosmic
A superbly presented, glamorous, richly marked blenheim. I would have liked less depth in stop, even so his ample cushioning, good eyes, nose pigment and well carried ears gives an overall soft gentle expression. A small, compact dog, good spring of rib, short in loin, level topline, well boned, of good construction. He is a lovely and most worthy champion.

Bitches  Mrs K M Coaker
I had been looking forward to judging this ruby anniversary show of our club & was not disappointed in the quality of the entry. In some classes, there were several good ones & I was spoilt for choice. Bitches seem to be better quality than when last judged them.
