Dogs. Miss M Morrison
I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Midland CKCS Club, for their kind invitation to judge the dogs at their Championship Show. Also grateful thanks to my two stewards Mr Cornaby and Miss Graver for keeping the ring running smoothly during the judging.
I had a lovely day’s judging, with a super entry and was spoilt for choice in many of the classes. Presentation overall was superb which makes judging a pleasure. There was a slight downside though and that was a great number of the exhibits had dirty teeth which I was surprised to find, even in some of the younger classes, I also found a few exhibits with dirty or wet stained eyes which spoilt their expression.
It was lovely to have a large ring which I made every exhibit use, a good circuit showed the soundness in many of the exhibits. The overall standard of the dogs was high which bodes well for the breed in the future.
A high percentage of the entry today was new to me, as I have only shown or stewarded at a few of the local Championship Shows to me in the last couple of years or shown under all-rounders at my local Open Shows. It was interesting to look at the catalogue afterwards to see who got what, and noted a number of the exhibits who got placings have done well throughout the year when one reads the write ups from other shows, but names mean nothing if the exhibits are unknown to you. Regarding my main winner it may surprise you to know, I had never seen him in the show ring even after all his many wins, as I probably was not at the same shows at which he had attended, and won at, so it was good to judge all the dogs with a fresh pair of eyes.
Lastly I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Midland CKCS Club for my lovely present, which now hangs on my wall.

1 Brewer & Moody’s Sultair The Sea Baron at Bowfort
My winner was looking even better than when I judged him at the Windsor CH Show 2006. Lovely wealth of coal black coat, in gleaming condition, well bodied throughout. Masculine head and expression, just beginning to slightly show his age of 11 years, full leathers framing his face. Moved freely around the ring, kept a good level topline, and showing a firm body shape, full plumed tail, lovely drive to the rear. Attentive to his handler, pleased to award him Best Veteran dog.
2 Koster’s Harana Sinatra
Lovely 8 year old showman, rich ruby coat of good length and silky texture. Mature masculine headpiece. Soft dark well shaped eyes, long full leathers, good cushioning, and nose slightly off today. Firm arched neck, good depth to chest, and well ribbed ribcage, firm topline. Carried himself well on the move, lovely sound free movement coming and going, using his firm hindquarters to advantage, well feathered overall.

A lovely class and some very promising babies exhibited today who will change places in the future. My winner was a well coated raw 6 month old Blenheim, very well presented, a real little show boy, gentle handling got the best out of him, just fell for him, still enjoyed showing himself off at the end of the day when challenging for Best Puppy. Soft masculine head and face stop just finishing off, lovely dark pigmentation to nose and eyes. Correct bite, well placed leathers of good length and colour. Good arch to neck, well placed shoulders, dead level topline, and well developed body for age not overdone, good length to back, and leading to nicely angulated hindquarters. Held a lovely outline when standing and on the move, steady sound movement showing himself off at all times. Soft silky textured coat well broken up, rich markings, not a hair out of place, pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog, and RBPIS.

Special Mid Limit Ruby (11, 4) I was surprised to find a great number of ruby males and the odd B/T male with winter noses in the entry today, this is something I am not used to, in bitches I could understand, but in the males it looked odd. Maybe I am lucky as my own ruby dogs have always had jet black noses any time of the year. Also some light eyes were spotted in some of the rubies something to watch with future breeding.
1 Hughes’ Loranka's Firestarter
Very upright handsome ruby male that made his handler work, he was just full of himself, seeking attention at all times, and did enough showing to win this class. Made his handler work, but boy did it pay off? Beautiful mature Blenheim male dripping in coat and feathering, classic headpiece, jet black nose and eyes, well cushioned face, good flat wide skull, lovely long full leathers correctly framing his face, lovely desired expression. Super all round conformation, well made front and shoulders, good length to neck, firm topline, tail well set on and always wagging. Well muscled hindquarters, good bend to stifle. Looked better today as he was able to really step out and show off his paces. Son of my CC winner a real chip of the old block as they say, but at only 19 months old just needs those finishing touches to complete the picture. I take this opportunity to thank the Midland Cavalier club for inviting me to judge at their show and to my stewards who kept everything running smoothly. I thoroughly enjoyed judging the bitches and I was very pleased with my final line up. The puppy classes were not as strong as I would have liked but unfortunately there were a large number of absentees. I noticed that there were many exhibits with trimmed feet, more exercise on hard ground would prevent this, trim between the pads and tease out dead hair between the toes by all means but the breed standard does say no trimming. My day was only spoilt by one unsporting exhibitor who made it abundantly clear that she was not happy with her placing. I do dislike exhibitors that persistently run up behind the dog in front to spoil their chances it is totally unnecessary. Apart from that I had a most enjoyable day.
