Dogs. Mr M Hegarty
My thanks to the committee of the Humberside for inviting me to judge at this very well run show. A quality entry awaited me and I was delighted with my principal winners. I was looking for happy, well-balanced, elegant exhibits, absent of exaggeration with the ability to freely move around the ring, exuding many of the features that make this breed unique. I was spoilt for choice and most of my winners fitted the bill. Some hard decisions had to be made but I judged on the day and many could well swap places on other occasions. I was concerned with the number of smaller, light eyes in the entry. Those large, dark round eyes called for in the standard were in the minority and thankfully all of my class winners were blessed in this respect. They should be the rule rather than the exception! The quality of young bitches was heartening to see - with some future stars already shining brightly!

Minor Puppy
1st Hall’s Tasset Bobby Darin
Smart well broken blenheim puppy dog shown in good order. Presented a nice outline when standing and very easy action on the move, holding a good topline and tail carriage which is so nice to see in a youngster. Head needs time to mature but has a good eye giving the desired expression. Should finish well.
2nd Walton’s Ladash Galaxy
Pleasing boy with a decent head and expression. Cast from a rangier mould in comparison to 1 but with time things should knit together nicely. Moved out well and showed with enthusiasm.
3rd Eyre’s Newroyds Making Waves
Puppy
1st Claydon’s Brymarden Monopoly
BPD & BPIS Ultra smart blenheim who would be hard to miss in any company. Super head with required dark round eye enhancing his melting expression. Rich chestnut markings on a coat of good length and texture. Loved his make and shape - so well balanced. Good neck into well laid shoulders that flow into a level topline and tail set which he used to advantage on the move. Going round he covered the ground effortlessly and was at all times attentive to his handler. With his pedigree he has a lot to live up to - but I am sure this young man is up to the job.
2nd Hall’s Tasset Bill Idol
Richly marked blenheim dog of overall good shape with super rear angulation. Pleasing head with good eyes and expression. Quite exuberant on the table but gave a better account on the move. Needs more time to fulfil his potential.

Every so often a dog exudes so much ring presence that makes it impossible to ignore them - this most impressive of blenheims is certainly in that category. On the table he is equally captivating. Classically balanced head that is so correct and aesthetically pleasing with large dark eyes that exude mischief plus a wonderful ear set with super leathers that frame his beautiful face. Hands on he is so pleasing to the touch with nothing discordant in his overall make and shape. Comes into his own on the move where his elegant, easy, positive action was joy to behold. In this dashing form he will always be a contender. An honour to have judged this boy. BD & BIS
2nd Renaud’s Ellenaud Lord Of The Rings
Lovely sized and well made flashy tricolour who is just coming into good coat. Another lovely attitude. He certainly was ‘Lording’ the ring today. Pleasing head with gentle outlook. Should make up into nice boy. Unfortunate to have met 1 on the day. I liked him.

Very exuberant boy who made it difficult to assess his many qualities. A real handful! Well-broken blenheim with richly marked coat. Totally free from any exaggeration. Nice overall shape with excellent neck shoulders. Lovely head with good eyes of correct size giving desired gentle outlook. Will only get better with maturity.

1st Water’s Maibee Time After Time
Typical toy spaniel in every respect from the tip of his jet-black nose to the end of his perfectly carried tail. His pedigree says it all! Beautiful in outline and very satisfying to go over on the table with just the right amount of bone and all of the right angles. His headpiece is what we have come to associate with this kennel. Super fully pigmented limpid eyes set in a head of beautiful soft contours free of any exaggeration. Moved happily but a tad short  of coat on the day. What was there was of the richest chestnut colour. When fully mature this blenheim will have many more admirers. One to watch!
2nd Fenton’s Lyndabelle Alonso
Lovely blenheim boy from a larger mould to winner. Shown in heavier jacket of lovely texture. Most generous head without being over done. Superb dark eyes and blackest of nose pigment. Wonderful bone on a very pleasing frame with great turn of stifle which he used to advantage on the move. Quality boy and no disgrace to stand second to 1.
3rd Clark’s Glorishears Prince Charles
Veteran
1st Sigsworth Judyland Magic at Hollylou
7 year blenheim with many good years still in this handsome chap. Although up to size he was beautifully made and commanded attention as he moved around the ring with one of the best toplines and tail sets of the day.
Special Post Graduate Blen
1st Felton’s Bevelmount Schumacher
Richly marked blenheim dog with very clear-cut rich chestnut markings. Lovely size carrying just enough weight. Moved impressively presenting a smart outline at all times. Typical head features but would prefer a darker eye. However, this did not detract sufficiently from his other qualities to take first place but paid the price in a later class.
2nd Mowatt’s Asmena The Minstrel
Another nice richly marked blenheim from this exhibitor. Well balanced showy boy who moved out with elegance. Nice overall shape. Pleasing head but his eye was giving him bother today so difficult to fully assess expression. Nonetheless a quality exhibit.

1st Inglis’ Craigowl Coaster
Very busy boy with style and attitude! Came into the ring as if he owned it and he did. Sweetest of expressions in a super head with darkest of eyes which is so hard to achieve in this colour. Plush coat which gleamed with condition with rich tan in all the right places. Well made all through with spirit level topline and tailset that is a trademark of this kennel. Moved with great aplomb. Could never be ignored but in the challenge just pipped by Junior dog for overall balance. One to be proud of and should go on to greater things. RBD
2nd Water’s Maibee Moffat
Another lovely toy spaniel from this kennel who is very much in the mould of his illustrious sire, Montrose. Shade smaller than 1 but many of the same remarks apply. Prettiest of faces, lovely head pattern, and fully pigmented dark eyes all framed by wonderful bell shaped ears. Super rich tan in all the right places. Unfortunately another suffering from an eye injury that made it difficult to fully assess expression. Heavier marked jacket of good texture and quantity, dressing a lovely shape and outline which was pleasing on the table and more evident on the move as he drove off his short hocks. A very useful boy!
Spec Post Graduate Black & Tan
1st   Granasil Winter Magic Of Ecotyne
Black and tan boy of nice size and shown in lots of lovely straight silky coat. Good head and eyes with a soft expression. Did enough to convince me he was class winner by moving well in both directions but needs careful handling to show him to advantage.
2nd   Midnight Purchase Aldorica
Beautifully balanced black and tan of lovely size and shape who caught my eye. Moved well and presented a lovely picture. Unfortunately his ears had been chewed which detracted from an otherwise classy little boy. Shown in nice order.
3rd   Brigodee Shooting Star
Spec Post Graduate Ruby
1st Smith’s Beaudale Fields of Gold
One of the nicest rubies I have the pleasure to judge. Ideal size and shown in immaculate condition (as were all from this kennel) in a silky jacket of richest chestnut. So satisfying to go over on the table. He moved with such style presenting a super picture going round. Stood wagging effortlessly with lovely topline and tailset. Most beautiful of heads with wonderful dark eyes giving that melting expression that is so hard to achieve in this colour. Used his ears well to ‘seal the deal’. In my final four.
2nd Grant’s Granasil Dr Pepper
Another very nice exhibit who was a good size and presented a lovely outline both standing and on the move. Not quite the coat finish of 1 but what was there was rich in colour. Lovely head with darkest of eyes. A little deep in stop for my taste but the overall look was quality. Perhaps not as happy today as he could have been.

1st Leach’s Ouzlewell Lord Chamberlain
Worthy class winner of lovely make and type. Yet another by Montrose! Lovely head shape with good dark round eyes. Appealed for his overall type which is just on the right side of not being overdone. Rich chestnut markings on a coat of good length and texture - just as I like. Moved very steadily around the ring showing off a nice profile.

Minor Puppy   One of the best classes of the day. A crop of lovely bitches who could hold their own at championship level.
1st Claydon’s Charwelton Magical Maiden of Brymarden
The baby of the class but my heart could not deny sending her to the top spot because that is indeed where this beauty is heading. Although very raw the sum total of her many virtues is a wonderful toy spaniel who illustrates what we should be striving to produce in bitches. Ideally sized with a beautifully balanced and striking outline, which catches the eye from any angle. Perfect top line with excellent tail carriage and moving with assurance beyond her tender months. Her headpiece is adorned with the most striking of eyes that are captivating and yet mischievous. Time can only serve to mature her into a top class specimen of our breed. BBP. Only conceded BPIS to her kennel mate on maturity. I shall watch her progress with interest
2nd Hurst & Wake’s Llustant Lunar Belle
Blen of great quality with good ring presence. Very nice to go over on the table with all of the parts fitting together nicely at his age. Did not disappoint on the move either. Just needs to watch tail carriage, which could otherwise detract from an impressive profile picture when moving. Makings of a nice coat coming through. Most feminine of heads with appealing eyes of super colour, size and shape. Caught my eye indeed.

1st Mynott’s Honeybet Close Harmony
Quality 10 month old Blenheim who stood in a rich well marked jacket, which was well broken and profuse. Nice size with good angles all through making for a lovely shape and outline. Most attractive headpiece with super eyes typical of her breeding. Although carrying tad too much condition she moved happily holding an enviable topline and tailset while showing off her many assets to advantage.
2nd Water’s Maibee Santa Ana
Quality richly marked blenheim who caught my eye on the first move around. In profile she displays a crisp, quality outline. Super neck and shoulders into a level topline with one of the best tail carriages of the day! Made great impression on the move when she carried herself with effortless easy action. Her head is appealing with good eyes but still needs time to fill out - that will come. When fully mature will trouble the best.

1st Hogan’s Deeriem Carismatic for Stavonga
Small blenheim who was obviously enjoying her day out! Presented a lovely balanced outline. I thought she looked small but when going over her was delighted to find a very sound frame of ideal size and construction. Stood in lovely well marked coat that was gleaming with condition. Prettiest of heads with the eyes we have come to expect from this exhibitor. Should have a good career ahead.
2nd Gillhespy’s Brymarden Blue Moon
Smart richly marked blenheim girl. Many of the same remarks apply. Beautifully constructed, excels in neck, shoulder, topline and tailset. Pretty head with room for maturity with great eyes of correct size and shape. Just needs to develop in confidence but has the makings of a really lovely cavalier.

Another with time on her side. Well marked blen, rich tan on a pearly white background. Pretty head of correct shape with gently tapered muzzle that was nice to see. Ideal bone for her frame. Moved and showed with great assurance and was a picture in profile.
2nd Weston & Johnson’s Ecotyne Almost an Angel
Nice ruby of good colour. Similar make and shape to the winner. Also head types were not unalike with nice eyes and a lovely expression. Her reluctance to show off her virtues cost her the class.

1st Gillhespy’s Lorphil Lady Angelina
Petite richly marked blenheim who stood showing off a very attractive outline. Although small she had the substance required for her frame. Beautiful neck, shoulders and topline - something I noticed from all exhibits from this kennel. Wonderful eyes in a well shaped skull giving the most appealing of expressions. Lovely to watch going round where her fizzy attitude caught my eye moving very soundly in both directions. Perhaps a tad more body to complete the picture.
2nd Smith’s Beaudale Madonna Lilly
Ultra delicious little ruby with eyes to die for! Thought this was my class winner but not enjoying her day out. Coat of lovely rich colour just coming through. Beautiful size and shape and superbly balanced. On another day these two could change places if she is on form. A quality bitch and one to be proud of.

1st Mowatt’s Lorphil Lucianna
Small correctly sized blenheim retaining a super rich chestnut colour on pearly white background. Facial features still very clear also giving her a wonderful expression with gentle, dark, round eyes that belie her 11 years. Good angles all thorough allowing her to move around with great fluency. Well deserved her place in this class. Delighted to hear of her recent clear scan – perhaps all is not doom and gloom. A credit to her breeder.
2nd Hobb’s Madeline Beansam at Beaconsfylde
Gorgeous ruby bitch of great size and shape. Good head with super eyes. No disgrace to be standing second to class winner. Lovely coat of correct texture and colour. Moved like a dream also. A lot of many good showing days left in this girl yet.
3rd Weston & Johnson’s Camahieu Midnight Mystery at Ecotyne

1st Powell’s Keyingham Little Gem at Margareith
A very nice exhibit and very much a toy spaniel. This little blenheim didn’t really want to play today but as the class went on she gained the confidence necessary to show herself to advantage. I liked her on the table, as she is lovely size and shape so typical of her breeding. Her head is not overdone with beautiful lustrous dark eyes giving a most appealing gentle outlook. Moved positively in both directions driving off short hocks.
2nd Whitfield’s Bevelmount Dellarosa
A gorgeous blenheim bitch who was not dressed for the occasion. When in fuller coat this girl will be hard to overlook. Most beautiful of heads with glorious eyes. Beautifully marked with rich chestnut on a pearly white background. Moved extremely well with a real touch of elegance and showed happily.

I have not see this girl since her puppy days and she has grown into a classy girl. She was shown in sparkling condition in a striking jacket with super tan in the right places making her hard to miss. Well made all through and is so satisfying to go over on the table. Just the right size too. On the move exudes great style in profile and moving positively in both directions. Her beautifully balanced headpiece is classical and set off with eyes of the correct size, shape and colour. I could not ignore the enthusiasm which she put in the task today and was drawn back to her many times in the challenge. Conceding to BIS winner on this occasion but delighted to find her as BB and RBIS
2nd Mynott’s Honeybet Hot N Snazzy
Delightful girl who is correct in so many ways also and put her all into today’s performance. Beautiful head with gorgeous eyes. Slightly heavier marked than 1 and less profuse but nothing to detract. Shown in lovely condition. Super shape and was satisfying to go over on the table. Unfortunate to meet winner.

1st Kilcoyne’s Chalmray Early Promise
Small pretty well balanced girl with lovely appealing expression. I loved her ideal size and shape. Shown in good coat and condition. Moved out well for her young owner who handled her most sympathetically.
2nd Loynd’s Crimbledale Witchcraft
Pleasing girl standing in good coat and condition. Carrying a bit too much weight which rather spoiled her outline on the move. On the table she had a good overall construction with a pleasing head and pretty eyes. On the move her exuberant attitude was lovely to see as she carried herself around with a good topline and tail carriage and driving off her short hocks.

Very Glamourous bitch of ideal size and shape. Would prefer her to have been a shade darker in colour but what was there was in excellent condition. Ultra pretty head and super eyes that gave an almost cheeky expression. Very busy on the move with the right attitude to always get second glance. Blenheim bitch of immense quality. Her headpiece is just beautiful. Nicely proportioned with the best of eyes which are quite captivating. I loved her body which is so well made with each part flowing into the next. Elegant neck, straight front, level top-line held at all times with firm hindquarters. Stood four square. Made like this it was no surprise to watch her move in a steady efficient manner in all directions. Her attitude is ‘all cavalier’ with the busyness required for the show ring. Shown in tip top condition in a lovely well broken profuse jacket. Seriously considered for the top spot in the challenge but just felt the winner had the edge on size. RBB Difficult decision! Top quality bitch who deserves her day.
2nd North’s Rosscrea Gabrielle with Jalesto
Well balanced black and tan of excellent type. Shapely body, good neck and topline. Not as soft in expression as 1. Shown in good coat of nice length texture and colour. Good rear movement with plenty of drive. Less enthusiastic than 1 but still one to be very proud of.
