Dogs. Miss C G Greenall
I should like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge at the Club Ch show, a great honour. I had been looking forward to this appointment very much. I was pleased with the quantity of the entry and I judged many lovely dogs. At the same time I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the exhibitors and I enjoyed my day very much and I hope they did too. My enjoyment was in no small part due to the efficiency and the support of the stewards. I was concerned by the dirty teeth of some of the young dogs. I did feel that the presentation of some of the dogs in some of the classes was not good enough. Hind movement needs watching, as some of the dogs moved very close behind. I was delighted with my line-up. The referee was called in to decide ‘Best of Breed’, which went to the bitch. My co-judge and I agreed that the dog puppy was ‘Best Puppy In Show’, and the Veteran Dog was ‘Best Veteran in Show’. Thank you all for a lovely day.

Bitches Mr I Sidgwick
For the Best in Show my co-judge Miss Gillian Greenall and I found it difficult to agree on the winner, as we both agreed the dog and bitch were both of high quality with little to separate them, so we called on the referee Mrs Diane Searle to make the final choice and she awarded the Best in Show to the bitch Mrs L Hughes’s Loranka’s Sherrie Baby JW with the Best Opposite Sex going to the dog Mr & Mrs J Wiggins’ Whyteplace Alonso. The referee also decided the award for Reserve Best in Show which she awarded to the dog Whyteplace Alonso.
For the Best Puppy in Show I was happy to agree with my co-judge and the award was given to the dog Miss S Maclaine’s Pennygown Phantom with the Reserve Best Puppy in Show going to the bitch Mrs S Smith’s Beaudale Bye Bye Lullaby. Best Veteran in Show was also a joint decision and was awarded to Miss A Bubb’s Ch Wandris Entertainer.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my stewards and to the club for inviting me to judge.

What a lovely class of quality young ladies this was. The first two were so similar and typical of what this breed should be. The first, a mere youngster at 12 years is very feminine in the head with an attractive expression. She has dark round expressive eyes and dark nose pigment and her head is framed by long high set ears with abundant feathering. Her head is carried on a good reach of neck which is set into a good lay of shoulders. She is well bodied with a long well broken coat and she moved happily around the ring.

First and second are two lovely bitches and it was a shame to have to separate them as they both have quality stamped all over them. I awarded the first to this beautiful tricolour, which I have to confess I do not remember seeing before. Exhibited in good coat and condition she presents a lovely square profile. Short and cobby in body with a good spring of rib. She has a good turn of stifle to the rear and is well constructed in her front quarters with well laid shoulders, elbows close to her chest and straight forelegs. She has a good depth and ample width to her chest and has and retains her level topline on the move. She has large dark round expressive eyes well spaced either side of a broad blaze and is not too deep in the stop. Her head is carried high on a slightly arched neck which flows into her well placed shoulders. Her movement is true and with drive. I was pleased to later award her the Bitch CC. (I was later told that her CC was her third).
2nd Maclaine’s Ch Lochbuie Geordie
Another short coupled bitch similar in size to the winner. Flattish skull with high set ears framing large dark round appealing eyes, dark broad nostrils in a nicely cushioned tapering muzzle. Her head was on a good reach of neck and she too was very well constructed throughout. Lovely body, well ribbed, level topline in good coat and condition and really showed her heart out. I again was pleased to later award her the Reserve Bitch CC.
