Dogs Mr A Brace (Tragband)
It was a somewhat sobering thought when I realised that the last time I judged the breed at Southern Counties was 33 years ago! That day Ch Crisdig Ted won his tenth CC & BOB & Ch Amantra Bohemian Image her first. Sadly the breed then had much more depth & today I found a worrying number of dogs who were short in rib, long in loin, with poor toplines & tailsets. Balance & outline is so important in every breed & is always my starting point. I was told many years ago to stand back from a class & mentally paint the dogs black, & to this day I do this whenever I judge as then you can then see the outline more clearly. Sadly not many of the males today fitted into the correct template as regards balance, with so many appearing long & low. Also many of the eyes could have been larger to give the true melting Cavalier expression.

Best Puppy Dog Hobbs’ Beaconsfylde Oscar Nuther

Minor Puppy (11 Entries 2 Absent)
1st Hobbs’ Beaconsfylde Oscar Nuther
7 months very open marked blen who looked a picture going around. Quality head but eye could be a little larger for perfection. Impeccably balanced throughout, flawless topline & tailset, wonderful angles front & back, went away so cleanly but needs to tighten in front. BP with the agreement of my co-judge.
2nd Hughes’ Loranka’s Edge Of Heaven
6 months blen slightly heavier marked than 1 & longer coupled. Very pleasing head & forehand! Optimum angulation throughout, moved soundly but not as enthusiastic with his tail as 1.
3rd Pack-Davison’s Leelyn Skye
Res Biddle’s Hearthfriend Bah Humbug
VHC Godwin’s Karaime Charmer at Simpatico
Puppy (5, 1)
1st Biddle’s Hearthfriend Bah Humbug
8 months tri who improved on his 4th in MPD here. Excellent overall type & shape, balanced head, very well angulated front & back with firm topline, colour could be better broken & movement up & down could be cleaner but going around looks a picture.
2nd Connor’s Gadeslain Perfect Gent
9 months tri of good basic type, just a fraction longer coupled than 1 & slightly heavier marked. Pleasing head, moved steadily.
3rd Holbrook’s Vonnyisle Life Of Riley
Res Sebrie’s Shelpet Sooty
Junior (6, 1)
1st Williams’ Sancana Daddy Cool
13 months b/t whose movement was most impressive. Basically balanced head with pleasing eye but could have a little more fill under the eyes. Rock hard topline, superbly constructed, quality coat. His carriage & movement took him through to the RCC. Should finish up well.
2nd Lock’s Korolevsky Luka
12 months blen who looked the obvious winner when the class first came in, glorious head, well broken coat, wonderful pigment, perfect balance but his rather gay tail carriage just detracts from the overall picture, like 1 was in beautiful bloom.
3rd Bryant’s Ellemich Bugsy Malone at Lucanico
Res Cracknell’s Sorata Henly Wet Socks
VHC Wightman’s Ellemich Kenzo at Kailyflee
Yearling (5, 0)
1st Greensmith’s Dersue Arthur Pint
17 months blen of quality, unexaggerated head which could have slightly larger eye, very impressive on the table with lovely quality coat. Sound & steady mover who could just be a little more outgoing, but he used his tail sufficiently to win the class.
2nd Bubb’s Wandris Evan ‘Elp Us JW
18 months extrovert blen in very profuse coat. More pleasing eye than 1 but longer coupled so lacked his overall balance. Moved soundly using his tail well.
3rd Hazeltine’s Juzandia Sergeant Pepper
Res Hobbs’ Beaconsfylde Fade To Black
VHC Boardman’s Inami Lucas Minowara from Volney
Maiden (6, 2)
1st Bloices’ Scotlass Power Of Love
8 months blen baby full of quality & promise. Pretty head with lozenge, loved his size & shape, quality coat well broken, just needs to tighten in movement.
2nd Sharman’s Wandris Beyond Belief
Much more mature & looking more the finished article but this blen is longer coupled than 1 so lacked his balance & shape. Quality head, beautiful eye, strong pigment. Moved around with style.
3rd Sebrie’s Shelpet Sooty
Res Mynott’s Honeybet Magical Dreamer
Graduate (6, 2)
1st Sharman’s Wandris Beyond Belief
See Maiden.
2nd Bryant’s Ellemich Bugsy Malone at Lucanico
3rd in Junior, handsome blen with very satisfying head & expression, nicely broken coat & good basic conformation. Not quite as well let down behind as 1 & like him a little long cast.
3rd Knight’s Carolus Don Ricco JW ShCM
Res Lewis’ Leelyn Michael Buble for Carleeto JW
Post Graduate (11, 2)
1st Hughes’ Loranka’s Moonshine
Really lovely blen of exquisite type & size. Quality head, well boned & ribbed, beautifully broken coat, optimum angulation front & back. Goes around with purpose & style carrying his tail perfectly. In beautiful bloom. Unfortunately he tends to come on rather wide which prevented him winning the RCC but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he gained his title.
2nd Chambers’ Avalcier Isaac at Georgewade
This blen has the most wonderful carriage as he goes around with such self-possession & style. Stronger in back skull than 1 & much more heavily marked but his style will always keep him in the frame.
3rd Boardman’s Volney Blackberry
Res Felce & Hollamby’s Tamcinia Knights Folly
VHC Blackburn’s Lovetrac Buster for Bekenveldt
Limit (14, 4)
1st Barwell’s Bowfort Masterminded for Charlottetown
Compact tri of ideal size & shape, unexaggerated head, nicely broken coat, holds his outline well. Moves with style if a shade close behind.
2nd Rennard’s Deranmar Sinclair
All male blen whose movement was spot on. Pleased in head & expression, very well constructed but just a shade longer coupled than 1. In full coat reasonably well broken.
3rd Mackenzie’s Carsan Danza
Res Morrison’s Lewisisle Highland Hamish
VHC Searle’s Stonepit Franco I Believe
Open (12, 1)
1st Cortes & Londono’s Miletree Montesuma of Londoncor
Blen of star quality, beautiful head & eye, masculine yet full of quality & with a lozenge. Great to go over on the table & an object lesson in handling & conditioning, quality coat reasonably well broken, sound & steady mover who carried himself with style. A real class act. Standing he stood away as at last I had found a dog who had perfect balance – a short back, good leg length & immaculate topline. Won what was apparently his second CC by a considerable margin & Piet Burema from the Netherlands as co-judge suggested he should be BOB without hesitation. Put on a magical performance in the group where he was shortlisted. Should be an easy champion & mop up CCs as he only just 2 years old.
2nd Mangham’s Maibee Perfect Touch of Charnavale JW
Another blen who had great carriage. Beautiful head but pigment not as strong as 1 & he is more heavily marked but I love his type & quality.
3rd Cunningham’s Verheyen Garrick JW
Res Hughes’ Stonepit Heaven Sent to Loranka
VHC Levy & Sedgwick’s Ch Gamble On You Des Contemplations at Pascavale
Veteran (2, 1)
1st Felce & Hollamby’s Tamcinia Knights Folly

Bitches Mr P Burema (Netherlands)
With great pleasure I judged this lovely and gentle breed. Thank you for the great sportsmanship in which you accepted my decisions. In order to give the dogs a more natural movement and showing a bit of their lovely temperament, I like the dogs in my ring shown on a loose lead. Allow me to make a remark: some of the dogs had not a clean mouth. Please clean it, before it starts to hurt and give health problems. My colleague judge, Mr. A. Brace and I agreed on the BOB, a stunning boy, Miletree Montesuma of Londoncor. BP became was the BPD Beaconsylde Oscar Nuther.
