Dogs Mr B Rix (Ricksbury)
I would like to thank the Cavalier Committee for asking me to judge at this show. After being involved in the breed for 45 years, this is yet another pinnacle in my judging career. I have to say having attended the show when Kevan judged in 2010, for me and Kevan this seemed a much more pleasant and well run show. I would like to thank the Committee for their kind and generous hospitality, including small touches that we have all come to expect when we judge in America like a Welcome Basket in the room. A very nice touch. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank not only the English exhibitors, but all the over seas Exhibitors, who made the great effort to attend this show. I would also like to say that in general I thought the quality of the dogs overall was very pleasing. Very few incorrect mouths, only a couple with poor nose pigment, and I can only recall one that had a disappointing light eye. On a less positive note I would like to see more attention paid to hind movement. To me this is one of the more disappointing problems in the breed. On another note as you will see by me critique, I hope more attention will be drawn to the Breed Standard regarding the wording of almost flat between the ears, not almost domed.

1st Claydon’s Ch Brymarden Montana JW
11 Year old Blen, in lovely coat and condition. Correct shaped head, almost flat between the ears. Round eyes that gave a soft expression. Flowed round the ring with free easy movement. Well angulated hindquarters that gave him such great drive. With my co judge we readily agreed for this dog to go Best Vet in Show.
2nd Biggs’ Kellorian Head Over Heels JW
8 year old well broken Blen dog that I judged when a young dog in his prime, I loved him then, and still liked him today. Extremely well made dog that was in good coat and condition, and is ageing really well.

10 month old tricolour, in fabulous coat and condition. Very pleasing head, with bright tan markings in all the right places. Round eyes with good pigment, and correct mouth. Elegant neck and shoulders. Well angulated hindquarters. Excellent bone for age. I thought this would have been my best puppy dog, however when challenging the MP dog, he started to lose his top line on the final move round, but a really nice exhibit.
2nd Towse’s Miletree Perseus
10 month old Blen. Masculine head with a gentle expression. Good neck and shoulders, leading into a firm level top line with good bone. Well angulated hindquarters, but just moving closer behind which pegged him back for top spot in this class.

14 month old Blen with what would be termed as a perfectly broken coat. Lovely head and expression with well placed ears. Round eyes which were dark. Excellent nose pigment and correct mouth. Good reach of neck, level top line with correct tail set and croup. Pushed hard for top honours today. Just needs a little more maturity to complete the picture. One to watch.
2nd Bubb’s Wandris Gentle Reminder
Well constructed more heavily marked Blen. With correct tailset and croup. Well angulated hindquarters. Excellent bone. Nice round dark eyes giving a soft gentle expression. And mature for age.

1st Renaud’s Ellanaud Freddie Mercury
18 month old Blen. With very correct head, again another dog with an almost flat skull between the ears. Round eyes with dark pigment around them. Correct length of nose, and good nose pigment. Correct mouth. Elegant neck and shoulders with good front. Level top line with angulated hindquarters. Moved soundly in all directions. A dog I have admired from the ring side, possibly could have gone higher later on in the day but I was disappointed with the dogs presentation. It is a beauty show, so I expect dogs to be shown in clean good condition.
2nd Whitfield’s Bevelmount Red Beaujolais JW

Almost 3 year old. Where to start on this dog. On entering the ring I am sure not only my eye, but going by the remarks I was given later on, everyone else’s eyes also went to him. What a striking dog. Starting with his head, a very correct head. Almost flat between the ears, with perfect ear placement. Round dark eyes, with correct nose pigment. Well tapered muzzle with correct amount of filling under the eyes. As an added bonus, he is even complete with lozenge. Correct reach of neck. Level top line. Sound front movement, with well angulated hindquarters in beautiful coat and condition. This is the presentation that I would expect to see at this level of competition. I was more than happy to award him the CC to rapturous applause and with full agreement with my co judge Best in Show.
2nd Koster & Ayers’ Am Ch Brookhaven Believe It Or Not
Another Blen with a very pretty head and expression. Not as masculine in head as winner, but a beautiful breed type. Again a dog of the correct size with good neck and shoulders. Coat in beautiful condition. Went around the ring with true movement and style. Lost out to winner in the challenge. Would have preferred a little more animation, but his title I am sure is around the corner. I was still more than happy to award this very typical example of the breed the RCC and again with my co judges agreement RBIS.
