First and foremost, my heartfelt thanks must go to the Officers and Committee for giving me the great honour of judging the Club’s Open Show at what must be one of the most popular open shows of the cavalier year. I really enjoyed the day, and was grateful for the opportunity to go over some really top class exhibits. Hardly any exhibits today had gay tails, I but would just sound a note of caution on not going too far the other way with low tail sets. Eyes are generally really good now, practically no white of eye seen, and most were of good size and shape. Heavy rains just the day before had given way to a warm sunshine allowing the show its usual happy garden party atmosphere. There was an ample ring beside the marquee, set out in the in-out style, making it possible to judge the dogs on the table under cover. My thanks to the stewards looked after me admirably, and for the lunch which was excellent, and for my lovely gift of a picture from a favourite artist which will be much admired.

Minor Puppy (2 Entries 1 Absent)
1st Crane’s Cranvarl Jimmy Mack
Blenheim boy of 7 months, up to size for age. Has outstanding rich chestnut colour on his pearly coat. Needs time to mature, head still to break, but even head markings on pearly white make a beautiful picture. Strides out well, and although a tad close behind right now, he has ample time to improve.
Puppy (9, 0)
1st Sedgbeer’s Castlewytch Rave On with Russmic
Compact, short bodied blenheim with an attractive unexaggerated head of correct proportions. He is so nicely marked overall, pearly white with rich tan markings. He’s a sound positive mover with great style, good shoulders leading to straight back with tail flowing out behind.
2nd Mangham’s Castlewytch Perfection of Charnavale
Such a smart tri dog, these two littermates can easily change places another day. Perfectly balanced, well angulated, sound on the move, drives out with aplomb. Loved the double pigmentation around the eye, the dark round eye and jet black nose.

Junior (5, 0)
1st Ireland’s Charnell Jameson
Blenheim of 11 months, cracking head, round dark eye, and so full and well cushioned, with a good reach of neck flowing past well laid back shoulders through to a level top line with well set tail. The angulations fore and aft were correct, the overall picture is of a lovely sound and well muscled dog with a bright future.
2nd Chapman & Ireland’s Ellemich Invictus
Blenheim, also 11 months Very pleasing and a lovely size, pretty but masculine head with good ear set framing flat skull. Moved soundly but 1 just had the edge on power on the move.

1st Biggs’ Kellorian Head Over Heels JW
Eight and a half year old blenheim shown in his usual immaculate condition. He is a real credit to his owner. Well broken colouration, a lovely size and overall make, arched neck level topline and well off for bone. Rich dark sparkling eyes. Still moving very soundly. He has what I call an old–fashioned head by which I mean a stronger fuller head than is the current fashion.
2nd Tarlton’s Tonmil Flashback To Cream
Very sturdy Blenheim of 10 years, keeping his colour well, and an overall pleasing make and shape. Would have liked a more upright hock.
Special Post Graduate Tricolour or Blenheim (5, 3)
1st Godwin’s Cavaliegh Ice Man
Fabulous dog with a wonderfully full silky coat. Very glamorous, with rich tan on pearly white background, pretty but masculine head with round dark eye, good pigmentation, exquisite little black nose, well cushioned foreface, well feathered ears well set on over flat skull, He is well angulated in front and behind, is strong in back with plenty of bone, and drives round the ring gracefully with well balanced movement, his tail is well set on and flows out from the spine at the correct angle. If I must criticise him at all, he could be shorter in loin – just a wee bit.
2nd Jones’ Triodan Tom Traddles at Droleus
This lad has super-rich colour, level head with well set ears, overall nice toy dog size, and is well angulated with a level topline. Moved out well.
Special Post Graduate Black & Tan or Ruby (3, 1)
1st Williams’ Sancana Daddy Cool
Wow, the eyes had it here. What a beautiful face on this black and tan, he’s quite stunning. Straight shiny coat too. Quite a substantial boy, short backed with a level top line and very good on the move. I would have preferred slightly less angulation in the rear, but overall a lovely dog.
2nd Wilkinson’s Narayden The Bruse in Poppywood
I love this b/t boy, with his silky coat, overall great make and shape, together with his sound movement. Shame tail carriage lets him down.
Limit (3, 1)
1st Maclaine’s Lochbuie Keswick
Richly coloured Blenheim, very smart boy, lovely size. Good tail set. Moderate angulation, well let down hocks, moves out soundly and with adequate drive.
2nd Newell’s Corbianne Charlottes Boy
A boy of substance – maybe a little too much. His head is well cushioned, level with ears well set, a round eye showing a little white which detracted from an otherwise pleasant face. I would prefer a longer neck, but he was neat in the shoulder, which was well laid back and carries a level topline and well set on tail.

1st Mangham’s Garlouchi Just Magic of Charnavale JW
Handsome 5 year old, still looking good, the term "real Toy Spaniel" suits him well. Lovely compact dog, classic markings, wealth of coat. Round dark eye, well cushioned foreface, level head with ears well set, arched neck, well laid shoulders, level topline, and a happy temperament. Moves out with drive, well balanced and sound on the move.
2nd Davies’ Estrid Thomas
Blenheim, rather proud of his tail, but enjoying his day. Unfortunately his owner didn’t present him for me to make further evaluation.

This little girl just oozes charm and quality. So pretty. On the move she is well made and very sound. A bright future awaits, I am sure.
2nd Hall’s Granasil Golden Mitzy at Rootessmar
Very nice ruby; in make and shape she is not unlike the class winner. Also sound on the move. She has the makings of a classy girl too and I shall watch her career with interest.

This little lady is aptly named. My congratulations to this breeder as litter mates Perfection and Rave On also won well today. Eyes large round and dark with well pigmented rims, black nose with well cushioned foreface, correct ear placement. Sturdy, with moderate bone, crested neck, shoulders well laid back, well ribbed, level topline. On the move she is elegant, sound and true, with a good driving action.
2nd Rees’ Embeth Bonny Boat
Tri bitch, short backed and glamorous. Many of the above notes apply to this girl too, most particularly in head, but would prefer a tighter tail set, which just falls a bit at the croup.

Another lovey girl with littermates doing well. This perky young lady is well put together, with a pretty head. She matches the breed standard well in very many ways. Would maybe like her a tad shorter in back, and her coat was a little wayward today.
2nd Evans’ Svena Love Song
Very sound ruby, with much to be admired. A lovely unexaggerated head, medium length of nose, pigment good, level head and ears well set on. Well ribbed up, good length of neck, well laid shoulder and correct angulations. True on the move, well muscled.

One I have watched ringside many times, and just loved her. Now almost 8 years old she retains her good qualities, including her sound positive movement, and that lovely head shape so reminiscent of her Dad.
2nd Koster’s Dortmund Delyla Harana
Petite and lively, this 8 year old black and tan has a sweet face with lovely round dark eyes and good pigment. Moves with energy, carries her topline level, but would prefer more crest to her neck.

Special Post Graduate Tricolour or Blenheim (14, 3)
1st Godwin’s Cavaliegh Honesty
This class was headed by two girls quite similar in type. The markings here were quite heavy, but the face very pretty with black lips, jet black nose, black eye rims with large round dark eye, level head, well set ears, moderate stop. The body was well ribbed, with moderate bone, crested neck leading to neat well laid back shoulders, level topline and well set tail. She was balanced and strong on the move. She could be a tad shorter in loin for perfection.
2nd Coole’s Jolainey Naught But Nice
Another heavily marked girl, her head has a shorter nose than 1 and a well cushioned face with pleasing expression. Well ribbed, moderate bone, sound on the move.

1st Smith’s Beaudale Bo Peep
Compact, petite ruby with good length of coat and feathering. She is ultra feminine in head, has a moderate stop and lovely large round dark eye, is nicely angulated fore and aft, has a crested neck, is well balanced with a good turn of stifle, well muscled thigh and is sound on the move. At 2 years of age she is still quite small but rubies are notoriously slow to fully mature.
2nd Brewer & Moody’s Russmic Isadora at Bowfort
Very pleasing, well ribbed up, good bone, excellent tail set. Has a good dark eye, good pigment, no exaggerations and is sound on the move. Not quite the coat of the winner, but overall a very decent type.

Beautifully presented petite and attractive Blenheim, very nicely balanced on the move. Well ribbed up, short in the loin, no over-angulation. Her pretty head is evenly marked as is the coat, good rich tan and silky texture with plenty of feathering.
2nd Newell’s Corbieanne Octavia
Stocky, and well off for bone. Well ribbed. Has a sweet head, with good pigment, and a round dark eye, level skull with well set ear, nose of moderate length unfortunately with a few freckles but acceptable. Rich chestmut markings. Moved well.

A quality bitch, moderate in stature, her head is sweet, well cushioned, with a short nose, moderate stop, level skull and well set ears. She is well pigmented in eye rims, lips and nose, dark round yes with a soft expression.
2nd Hall’s Rabymar Moon Dust over Rootessma
Stocky ruby, well ribbed, moderate bone, has a thick coat of decent colour. A well balanced head, short nose, moderate stop, pretty round dark eye with pleasing expression, neat lipped with good pigment. Crested neck, well laid back shoulders, excellent topline, and correct tail set. Maybe a tad short on leg v length of back, but sound nonetheless and moved with drive.
