Dogs Mr G Inglis (Craigowl)
I have not been to Builth Wells for a number of years and had forgotten how long a journey it was, from any direction. So I thank those exhibitors who made the arduous journey for my opinion of their dogs.
I was pleased to have the opportunity to judge the breed, as it is some years since I did this in the UK. However, having exhibited more frequently than previously, in the last 12 months, few of the dogs were unfamiliar to me. Added to this, Social Media has changed the dog show scene considerably in recent years. With the entries of Cavaliers a fraction of what they used to be, it is almost impossible to come away from a show without a placing. However, the pleasure of receiving an award should be kept in perspective. Breeders and exhibitors should be objective about what they are showing and strive to produce and exhibit better or, at least as good, in the future. This will help the breed to progress upwards. That said, I found the males particularly encouraging with a number of youngsters with great prospects, plus some top class exhibits among the adults. In Females, not quite so. Few of the young ones excited me and less than a handful of the adults. Recurring problems I found, were constructional, including poor toplines and tailsets, rounded croups and rear movement.

Minor Puppy (7 Entries, 1 Absent)
1st Davies’ Salegreen Brecon
Although not previously shown, this 7 month blenheim was no stranger to me, given his "Baby Book" has been featured extensively on facebook, and he has done his round of the shows from an early age. I, like many, have admired his puppy looks, both on screen and in person. However, I had not taken the trouble to examine him critically before today, as I did not think he was to going to be shown. His head, now bereft of most of the puppy fluff is most appealing, with high-set well-feathered ears framing a delightful face, with dark round eyes, dark pigmentation, and a well-formed muzzle, giving a gentle enquiring expression. Bodily, he is just right for his age, with good balance and correct angles front and rear. With pleasing neck and shoulders, he looks impressive standing and by the end of the day, was getting the moving part well, in patches. I saw enough to merit this placing. The hard work for the exhibitor now begins; to deal with his wealth of body coat and train him to distinguish between playing and showing.
2nd Maclaine’s Lochbuie Bond James Bond
I’d seen this one before. In glimpses when he’d caught my eye, he had reminded me of our Hoodwink when he was a similar age. It was his elegant outline that drew me. Correct neck, shoulders, topline and tailset. A compact little package who carried himself well with the stylish profile I was looking for. A pleasing and unexaggerated head, with correct balance of skull to muzzle, flat on top with well-set ears. Blenheim coat in excellent condition is coming in well. Lost out to winner’s exceptional eyes.

Puppy (6, 2)
1st Ireland’s Charnell Hogan
In his final puppy class this stylish Blenheim went out with a flourish, winning Best Puppy In Breed. He is perfect for size with richly coloured, well-defined markings. I loved his shape and compactness. Well developed ribcage and firmly made all through, with a clean neck and good shoulder placement, he presents a striking outline. Pleasing in head and expression, with dark eyes and shapely muzzle. He was steady and fluent on the move.
2nd Koster’s Harana Huey Lewis
A very elegant outline on this Ruby, if a shade less compact than winner at present. At just 9 months his body will develop more and his coat will grow to balance the outline which benefits from a graceful neck, flat topline and correct tailset, which he displayed to effect on the move. Flat in skull with dark gentle eyes. Good colouring to his coat that is blossoming well.

Res Rhodes’ Calonlan Gino
Junior (5, 0)
1st Waddington’s Spindlepoint President JW
The heavy body markings of this richly-coloured blenheim are complimented by a wide white collar, and the combination emphasises his striking outline. His shapely head and large dark eyes project a heart-warming gentle expression. Good neck and shoulders with well-turned rear quarters, he carried himself as well as I’ve seen him. He is growing up well and his coat was gleaming with condition.
2nd Drewett’s Brymarden Honeycombe at Judyland
A size bigger all through, but with bags of quality. Soft expressive eyes and a broad flat skull. With correct shaped muzzle. Good angulation front and rear and a firm topline, but a shade longer than winner. He moved with style and purpose. Coat shining and rich in colouring.

Yearling (5, 2)
1st Lister’s Roll Of The Dice to Cachevell
A handsome blenheim. Satisfying in size and shape. Ideal well-broken markings. Attractive and balanced headpiece. Body developing well with enough neck and a firm outline, which held, when he settled to move.
2nd Conneally’s Coedgwylum Hot Addition
Larger type of blenheim, with richly coloured well-broken markings. Dark eyes, but just a tad heavier in foreface for my taste. I’d like a softer expression. Good neck, but a shade upright in forequarters and longer in body.
3rd Carr-Tomlinson’s Ledesham Wilbur
Post Graduate (10, 0)
1st McInally’s Dalvreck Starshine
A lovely headed small blenheim, with an exceptional outline, which he showed to advantage both standing and moving. His head was very satisfying to look at with the correct balance of skull to muzzle. Dark eyed and handsome with well set and feathered ears. Elegant neck joining correctly to his firm topline and well set tail. In good coat of rich colouring he presented a striking picture, earning him further consideration in the challenge.
2nd Hubbard’s Popolulu Theodore Twist
Well-bodied tricolour with a pleasing outline. Firmly made and well muscled. Attractive type of head with good eyes and enough muzzle. Expression could be softer. Flashy markings on his abundant coat, but rather unruly and harsh to the touch. Attentive to his handler and moving quite well.

1st Koster’s Harana Errol Brown JW
It is difficult not to notice this exceptional ruby, as his beautifully presented coat of length and quality draws you in. He is also perfect for size and has an eye-catching profile, benefitting from a graceful neck and correct body length and well set-on tail. His balanced head is undoubtedly masculine, with large round dark eyes, framed by his ample ears, giving a pleasing outlook. He moved steadily with style to beat off all today’s opposition, winning his third CC and BEST OF BREED.
2nd Renaud’s Ellenaud Freddie Mercury
Blenheim with many attributes. His shapely head, with dark, round eyes and well feather ears, exudes the desired softness in expression. His body is firmly made, with the correct angles front and rear, with just enough height to length. He moves soundly and accurately and his coat is pleasingly well marked, but just lacking the lustre and shine of the class winner.

Open (3, 0) Just three in this class, but all champions and deservedly so. A pleasing dilemma.
1st Hughes’ Ch Loranka’s Heavenly Moment
Another exhibitor who’s grooming and presentation skills are of the highest order, turning out two for this class. This tricolour ticks so many boxes. His heavily marked black coat, which shone with condition, serves only to emphasise his clean and balanced outline. Great for size, with a reachy neck, correct shoulders and level topline. A soft outlook from gentle eyes. Muzzle of correct shape and length, framed by heavy ears. A change of handler today did not faze him, he strode out with purpose and aplomb, presenting a very tidy profile. Pleased to have the chance to handle him and award him Reserve CC.
2nd Sedgbeer’s Ch Castlewytch Rave On with Russmic JW
This striking, well-marked and richly-coloured blenheim certainly fills the eye. High set ears on his broad skull, with a well defined muzzle set off a satisfying head piece. So well put together and a firm body with perhaps a shade to much condition today. Stunning standing in profile, he is a top quality specimen.
3rd Hughes’ Ch Loranka’s Cupid JW
Veteran (1, 0)
1st Davies’ Bowcara Casanova
A very fit 11 year old tricolour. Lovely in head and expression, with just a little grey beginning to show, he has an almost flat skull with correct high earset. Pleasing angles front and rear with a firm topline and correct tail carriage. He has a great attitude and was in top condition bodily. A pleasure to see him move with ease and flourish. Although alone in this class, he looked a worthy participant in the challenge. I did not recognise him, but see that he was my best puppy dog from my last UK appointment in 2006.
Good Citizen Dog Scheme (3, 2)
1st Hedger’s Khatibi Hedger Bets On Alrewic
Unplaced in the Post Graduate class, this tricolour was a bit bigger and heavier than my ideal. Firmly made body with good shoulders and well angulated rear, although a bit untidy in rear movement. Shown in lovely condition, he has great for character and personality and I’m sure fulfills the requirements of a truly Good Citizen.

Minor Puppy (12 Entries, 3 Absent)
1st Towse’s Miletree Ophelia
This 8 month old blenheim is well developed in body with a sweet expression on a very attractive head with gentle eyes and soft expression. Good size and well balanced, she is developing well. Better on the move than standing today.
2nd Maclaine’s Pennygown Ticket To Ride
Another blenheim with a pleasing and balanced head. Good neck and shoulders and correct angles front and rear. A good shape and profile standing, but preferred the winner’s outline on the move. Both these puppies turned out in excellent condition.

Puppy (10, 3)
1st Hughes’ Loranka’s Its A Kind Of Magic
I liked the compact outline on this well marked, if a shade pale in colour, blenheim. Her neck, shoulders and topline are complimented by correct angulation front and rear, and so she gave the profile I was looking for. With a pretty head and round dark eyes, she looked very appealing. Moving proficiently she was Best Puppy Bitch.
2nd Holbrook’s Vonnyisle Jezebel
A blenheim full of personality with a great outline and the waggiest of tails. Head and expression appealed. A firm topline, but would like some more angulation in the rear. Movement steady and flowing.

1st Whitfield’s Aristor Pink Topaz for Bevelmount
An elegant ruby from any angle. She is well coated and with good depth of colour. Pleasant head with a shapely muzzle and dark eyes. Good earset and long feathered leathers. Well off for neck and level in topline, she moved very fluently.
2nd Newell’s Hearthfriend Magic Trick at Corbieanne
A pretty enough tricolour, who is heavily marked and a shade long in body. Rather uncoordinated on the move, she loses her topline in profile and could be tidier in the rear.
Yearling (7, 4)
1st Vella’s Cinderaic Taboo
A small blenheim with the prettiest face and expression. Her neck shoulders and topline link well to give the profile I was looking for. She showed this both standing and moving with level tail carriage. Coat of good length and pleasing texture.
2nd Eustace & Lovel’s Lovetrac Knickerbocker of Salegreen
This tricolour had the dreamiest head I saw all day. Soft and expressive eyes. Well set ears of length and fullness with a shapely muzzle. She is perfect for size and has a large white collar on a solid black body. Coat in tip top condition. Lost her outline completely when it came to moving. So disappointing.
3rd Newell’s Hearthfriend Magic Trick at Corbieanne
Post Graduate (7, 1)
1st Rhodes’ Calonlan Virgo
A lot to like about this attractive blenheim of good size and substance. Nothing is overdone. With a pretty head and striking outline she held my attention, both standing and on the move. Coat of rich colouring in lovely condition. Happy and cooperative in her demeanour, she aimed to please. And she did sufficiently to take today’s Reserve CC.
2nd Player’s Culverhill Chyna at Anickily
A shapely black and tan with large dark eyes and a most appealing expression. She has plenty of coat which was soft to the touch and in excellent condition. Good overall conformation both standing and moving.

1st Walton’s Underknoll Rudbeckia
This was a disappointing class, with the ruby winner being 4th in the Post Graduate class. She is the correct size, balanced in outline, with a nice type of head, good colouring and enough coat. She moved adequately.
2nd Mangham’s Charnavale Magic Touch
Typy blenheim of the correct size, with enough neck and a firm well made body, if a little overweight. I liked her profile movement and she has good attitude and shows her heart out.

1st Rix & Berry’s Ricksbury Rumour Has It JW
Already a champion, this young blenheim fulfils so many aspects of the breed standard. Correct almost flat skull with high-set well feathered ears. Large dark eyes and a cleanly defined muzzle with no hint of lipiness. Balanced in outline, with a clear neck, tidy shoulders and good rear angulation. She moved with fluidity and control and is accurate both coming and going. Her coat is richly coloured and in excellent condition, but not as full as the dog’s today. Gentle outlook. Her many plus points swung the scales in her favour today to take the CC.
2nd Hughes’ Ch Loranka’s Moments Like This JW
This tricolour has very satisfying head properties, good eyes, full ears and a gentle expression. Her coat of clearly defined markings had length and was, as expected, in excellent condition. She moved, I thought, rather sluggishly and did not make the most of herself. I would like a more positive rear action.
