Dogs Mr D Crossley
First my thanks to the Crufts show committee for this opportunity to judge today, and my thanks to my stewards Gay Lowe and Mason Thorne, but primarily my thanks go to all exhibitors and visitors for their welcome and their sporting appreciation of the successful exhibits.
I was looking for breed type, correct conformation, good movement and the dogs natural showmanship. By this I mean the breed attribute of a happy outgoing personality; a requirement not evident in all exhibits today.
It is good to have your dog stand, even better if it stands correctly, but stock still with no animation, no wagging tail, is not for me. Neither do I think baiting at this level should be necessary and it is not wanted whilst on the table.
I was pleased with all my winners and delighted that in the challenge all dogs showed their hearts out and I thank my co judge for her agreement on the dog for B.O.B., over an outstanding tricolour bitch a worthy champion I was happy to agree the bitch for Best Puppy in the puppy challenge.

Veteran (18 Entries, 2 Absent)
1st Baker & Park’s Ch Keyingham Branwell
Every thing has been said many times about this outstanding blenhiem I have previously given him a CC almost 6 years ago and it is still impossible not to marvel at his condition, construction and ring style. He led my final line up with equal style at the end of the day as he when winning this class in the morning.
2nd Jones’ Timsar Master Of Ceremonies
A very attractive and well made blen moved and showed as a top class dog only unlucky to meet up with the winner in such fine form.
3rd Tarlton’s Tomnil Flashback To Cream
Another pleasing blen of great type moved well and showed well unlucky to meet with 2 such nice dogs today.

A well constructed blen in good coat, rich coloured markings of nice silky texture. Has a good proportioned head for age and nice eye shape and black pigment, showed and moved well.
2nd Rogerson’s Rabymar Super Ted
Lovely compact rich coloured ruby of good quality well coated soundly made moved with style more to come from this dog in the future.
3rd Fry & Jackson’s Amantra Orson
Another good type, correct construction and a rich blen coat, well broken as desired. Liked this dog but just felt he wasn’t giving of his best in todays arena.

1st McInally’s Dalvreck Dream On at Braemarra JW
Very mature for age this blen dog, has great potential for the future, good strong head, nice eyes, good pigment, good reach of neck, well placed shoulders, good body, strong hind quarters and consequently moved well. Showed hard in class and challenge.
2nd Searle’s Stonepit Franco I Believe
Not as mature as winner but a good type, compact well made body, rich tan markings and a well broken coat, a pleasing head and expression, moved well. A very promising dog unlucky to meet the winner today.
3rd Hughes’ Jordanic Touch The Sky at Loranka
A very good neat blen with a well broken coat of good texture, he is of similar type to the second and a very sound mover.

1st Kavelaars-Van Loenhout’s Periwinkle Fairy V ‘T Burgstse Hof Njk JW
Well made and balanced blen dog moved well. He has a good head, with a well cushioned face framed by good ears, shown in good coat, he is outgoing reminding me of a dog I was once owned by, he has a true cavalier personality, highly considered in the challenge but lacks a little maturity at this time.
2nd Waters’ Lanola Siesta at Maibee
Very good type of blen dog shown in good condition, similar make to winner, sound mover, showed well but I just preferred the winners head.
3rd Smith & Aldous’ Ch Aranel Genesis
A most well marked dog of nice size, good compact body with sufficient substance and good bone and a rounded rib cage. Coat of soft texture well presented and showed well. A true toy spaniel with a very gentle expression perhaps too soft for a dog but that’s my view.

1st Godwin’s Cavaliegh Kinsman
A very neat typy blen with good conformation, good well broken coat. Moved stylishly around the ring showing all the time, still some maturing to do but liked him a lot.
2nd Koster’s Harana Alfie Boe
Very compact and well made black/tan of quality, pleasing head, good tan, rounded eyes giving gentle but masculine expression, easy mover with showmanship, close up to winner.
3rd Hindle’s Ellisiana Adonis
A good blen dog, well coated, evenly marked good head and correct pigment. More mature than the others but not a big dog, he is correctly made and balanced both standing and on the move.

Very flashy blen in good coat of softest texture, a really good soundly made dog, pleasing head shape and good pigment, good movement keeping top line at all times.

1st Pagan’s Sorata Don Vito
A rich ruby of great type, good construction and sound movement. This colour is difficult to present at its best, but here was a perfect example of presentation, even colour throughout and gleaming with condition. He moved soundly and true, showing all the time without any exaggeration.
2nd Li’s Avalcier Harvard JW
A well presented, soundly made blen in full coat of soft and silky texture. This dog has great style and presence on the move but just preferred the showmanship of winner.
3rd Lobel’s Lovetrac Markof Distinction JW
A high quality, richly coloured blen shown in good condition, has a very attractive head, great eyes and dark pigment, a correctly made body and consequently he moved soundly with drive but spoilt his outline at times by over angulating his hind quarters to move towards his handler especially, when standing which detracts from the overall effect.

1st Mynott’s Honeybet Magic Touch
Beautifully marked tricolour of good quality, correcr flat skull difficult in tricolours, attractive facial expression and good pigment, really well made body, sound movement, shown well responding to his handler.
2nd Boyd’s Wandris Comedian at Airlie JW
A well made blen of good type and nice size he has a pleasing head, correct balanced body and covers the ground strongly but with true movement and non stop showing. Worthy second to the tricolour.
3rd Hazeltine’s Juzandia Johnny Be Goode
I liked this very compactly made attractive blenhiem very much but he did not seem at ease in this arena. I cannot fault his construction or deny his quality type as short coupled dogs are rarer than they should be, I look forward to seeing him outside on another day.

A very richly coloured blen of high quality, excellent head shape even if I would prefer a wider blaze. Large dark eyes strong neck, good shoulders, spring of rib, correct turn of stifle, strong true movement and never stopped showing, highly rated this dog for top honours.
2nd Li’s Avalcier Oberon JW
A very good type close up to winner say my notes. Well broken blen coat on a good typy body, pleasing head, good pigment, moved and showed well.
3rd Hill & Webber’s Montcolly Andrew
Another blen of good colour and neat make and shape, moved well but lacked the finish of the first 2 today but I won’t be surprised to see him reach the top.

Beautifully presented blen of richest colour and superb construction, most expressive head, dark eyes of correct size just draw you in. Well made and well balanced body and sound elegant stylish movement and non stop showmanship just stole my final vote from a very close challenger. C.C. Pleased to have my co judge’s agreement for B.O.B.

Another great blen in best condition I have seen him. Very well constructed throughout, this dog moves really well and is a worthy champion, just edged out by the winner today. R.C.C.
3rd Hughes’ Ch Loranka’s Just Like Heaven JW
I have always liked this well balanced blen dog, he is so typy, a lovely head, neat correct body, and true movement, just felt today he was not in the best of coat and somewhat reluctant to show himself off to best advantage but he is quality and worthy of his title and placing in todays very hotly contested class of quality dogs.

Bitches Miss S MacLaine
It goes without saying what an honour it is to be invited to judge at such a prestigious show and how thrilled I was with such a super entry, both numerically and in overall quality. My very grateful thanks are extended to two of the breed’s most competent stewards, Roy Wilkinson and Richard Cornaby who ensured that all ran smoothly. Having had my pre-judging brief by the Kennel Club with regard to "fit for purpose, fit for function" I was confident that I did not even see a single Cavalier that did not meet the required criteria and that includes the stunning veteran entry of 23 bitches. It was a pleasure to jointly award Best of Breed, with my co-judge, David Crossley, to the dog, Towse’s Ch. Miletree Constellation, who could not have performed any better in the group and, as so often happens with the Cavalier, was disappointingly overlooked.

Veteran (23 Entries, 3 Absent) This class showed that the breed has been in good hands and what quality there has been to breed on from.
1st Levy, Sedgwick & Cline’s Ch Pascavale Krystle
Rich chestnut Blenheim, not far off her 10th birthday and not giving much away to her age. She has one of the most gentle heads, has not lost the cushioning and her languid eyes give such a melting expression. A neat cobby shape, good reach of neck and level topline that she kept on the move.
2nd McMurray’s Merryoth Maeve
Heavily marked tricolour of almost 8 years with barely a grey hair, still in top show condition and thoroughly enjoying being back in the ring! Another with such a kind, gentle head and so sweet expression. She moved with drive.
3rd Cunningham’s Clockpelters Trudie
Another quality bitch, unlucky to come up against my first & second. A well broken Blenheim of 8 years, very elegant with good reach of neck and level topline – she flowed around the ring on the move.
Res Goodwin’s Ch Lanola Salsa JW ShCM
VHC Sparrow’s Tashmit The Next Generation
Special Puppy (17, 1) From the old to the young and so much promise for the future – my top 3 in this class are all from the top drawer, oozing quality, I have no doubt we will see them all gain their crowns.
1st Sansom’s Maibee Remember Me
I am sure we will never forget and so appropriate that this name was given to a bitch of this calibre. 11 months old, an elegant, well broken Blenheim with lovely clean lines, excelling in neck and shoulders, with super topline and so sound on the move. Gentle head with no exaggeration, dark eyes and sweet expression. With my co-judge we were pleased to award her Best Puppy in Breed.
2nd Cunningham’s Verheyen Angelina JW
Another stunning Blenheim bitch of 13 months. A little longer cast than my first and heavier marked. Very attractive, kind head with dark eye & pigment. As we come to expect from this kennel, impeccably trained, it is a delight to watch any animal move so soundly on a free lead still wagging her tail to the last.
3rd Levy, Sedgwick & Cline Pascavale Kira
Well broken Blenheim of just under a year. She is a lovely size, cobby in shape yet still has neck. Very gentle in head, shorter in foreface than 1 & 2 and balanced all through. Lacking in animation today.

1st Waddington’s Spindlepoint Lyra
Has everything going for her in a neat, small package. Just 15 mths old, this well broken Blenheim bitch of approx 14 lbs does not lack for anything in her size. She has lovely bone, a good shape, level topline and excellent tail carriage. A very sweet head with dark eyes and so feminine – a real showgirl that moved soundly.
2nd Hubbard’s Cobbets Dancing Diva avec Popolulu
Another 15 mth old Blenheim, richly marked chestnut, just in-between coats. Sweet head with very kind, dark eye and soft expression. She moved soundly both in front and behind, not always in control!
3rd Surman’s Cavaliegh Jaida with Vallender
A close contender to my first and second, this well broken Blenheim at 17 months is in full, quality coat. A lovely bitch with good reach of neck and shoulders, she moved with drive. Just preferred the expression of 1 & 2.

1st Towse’s Miletree Star Of India
And what a star! She caught my eye as she came into the ring and did not disappoint when I went over her. So feminine in head, no exaggerations, most glamorous ears framing her gentle muzzle and used to her advantage to complete the expression. Excellent angles at shoulders and hind quarters, she moved with drive. I am sure that as she gains a full wardrobe her crown will follow quickly. Today I was delighted to award her the Reserve CC.
2nd Boundy’s Ellemich Ruby Wax at Rubyfield
So very sound, this ruby lady just covers the ground with determination, so well muscled in her hindquarters. Dark eye, well cushioned muzzle, preferred nose pigment of 1st. Handled to her advantage.
3rd Atkins’ Triodan Tiffany at Lacerta
Smartly marked Tricolour with so gentle head, dark eye and kindest of expression. She moved well and was unlucky to meet 1 & 2.

Blenheim with rich chestnut markings. A cheeky character with attractive head, dark eye & pigment. Pleasing in front construction with good reach of neck and lovely outline standing. She moved better in front than behind.
2nd Whitfield’s Bevelmount Red Focus
Ruby with delicious head, so soft expression. Dark eye and good pigment, she was unlucky to come up against the winner.
3rd Kirkwood’s Sorata I Am What I Am
Rich ruby, a little stronger in head than my 1 & 2. Another with dark eye and pigment which so enhances the expression. She moved with all the show personality and plenty of drive.

Graduate (26, 4) This was a hot class where I was truly splitting hairs between my places. On the day 1st was taken by Koster’s Montcolly Dottie Harana JW.
1st Koster’s Montcolly Dottie Harana JW
Attractively marked Blenheim, well broken and richest of chestnut in tip top condition. Balanced for size and superbly handled, showing off her wonderful reach of neck, she kept her topline and tail carriage on the move. Feminine head with large dark eyes, and super flat top skull.
2nd Claydon’s Brymarden Carolina Moon JW
I loved this sassy little madam with all the "pick me" attitude. She has a truly delightful head with huge dark eyes and melting expression. Lovely front construction, she moved true both coming and going. Thought she had this class in the bag but unfortunately flew her tail on and off as the bitches moved round the ring so close behind her.
3rd Levy, Sedgwick & Cline’s Pascavale Alexus
A lovely Blenheim bitch of correct size with super bone, good neck, shoulders and tail carriage. Feminine head with enormous dark eyes, just refusing to lift her ears to frame her charming face.
Res Crozier’s Korraines Kressida

Post Graduate (19, 6) The competition just got hotter and 1st in this class went to the Mynott’s appropriately named Honeybet Hot ‘N’ Sassy
1st Mynott’s Honeybet Hot ‘N’ Sassy
This Blenheim is up to size for me, for a bitch, my only criticism. She is in balance with excellent reach of neck, good shoulders, lovely deep chest with super rib and plenty of angulation behind, so very sound on the move. Clean markings, rich chestnut on pearly white background, put down in beautiful condition and so focussed on her handler. Delicious dark eyes and jet pigment.
2nd Ackroyd-Gibson’s Toraylac Perfect Passion JW
A super quality Blenheim of different type to 1, a little shorter in foreface. A compact bitch with good neck, carrying a little extra weight on the shoulder. Another feminine girl, so appealing, with dark eye and pigment and full of pzazz.
3rd Mancey’s Pataleys Gertrude Jekyll at Estrid
Ruby bitch unlucky to meet the above 2. Lovely head with soft, sweet expression. Attractive outline, excelling in hind angulation she moved very soundly and never stopped wagging. Nose pigment could be darker.

Captivating Blenheim that I struggled to take my eyes off. So very feminine, sweet head with correct foreface and topskull, dark full pigmented eyes and blackest of noses. Lovely size and good bone in proportion, well balanced all through. So well constructed in front and behind she could not fail to move soundly.
2nd Rennard’s Deranmar Philippa
Another well constructed Blenheim bitch who moved effortlessly taking her handler for a stroll! Excelling in topline with tail carried straight off her back and used to her advantage. Such a kind, gentle head with lovely dark eye and super pigment.
3rd Gamble’s Loranka’s Back To Black for Lisgarth
B/T in full coat, raven black with richest of tan. Lovely size, this bitch is a heart stealer, full of character and so much exuberance, very sound on the move. Gave way a little in topline today.

1st Chapman’s Ellemich Cocochanel
this bitch has softened with maturity, such very dark eyes with excellent pigment. Wonderful crest to neck, good shoulders and level topline. She paints a lovely picture standing enhanced by her rich chestnut markings and pearly background. She moved with determination and drive.
2nd Cunningham’s Verheyen Laura
Very gentle head, so feminine with dark eye and sweet expression. A sound mover who didn’t quite cover as much ground as my winner.
3rd Conneally’s Coedgwylum Hot Tip

1st Hughes’ Ch Loranka’s Sherrie Baby JW
What is there left to say that hasn’t been said? How tempting it must have been to try to replicate her. Now 5 years old and having never been bred from she has never lost her shape, style or love of the show ring. It was no surprise to me that I could not see past this quality bitch, I fell in love with her as a baby when she had had one ear eaten off and her owner was in despair! Truly a toy spaniel, totally free from any exaggeration and worthy of her place in history books. She has a delightful head, dark eyes and super pigment, a quality Tricolour dress with richest of tan and as we have come to expect from this kennel, presented in tip top condition. She moves effortlessly and is impossible to ignore. I was delighted to add another CC to her collection and if I could have stolen her as a puppy I would have done!
2nd Sansom’s Ch Byermoor Queens Maid JW
An honest bitch with nothing to hide, that I have always admired. Lovely head carried so proudly. Excelling in topline and front construction, she moved so soundly. Not carrying her full wardrobe.
