Dogs Mrs A Rennard (Deranmar)
I fully appreciate the honour of judging this prestigious show and thank the KC committee for giving me the opportunity to do so. My task was made so much more pleasurable by the efficiency and good humour of my two stewards – Roy Wilkinson and Richard Cornaby. My true and grateful thanks to both of them – they were wonderful!
I was looking for a typical, unexaggerated cavalier with a balanced shape, good shoulders, happy showmanship and a steady temperament and tried not to fault judge in any way. It was, however, difficult to find the expression I was looking for. Large, dark, round eyes were in the minority and some of the faces did not have the honest, gentle expression which to me epitomises the breed. I am mindful that when I am handling my own dogs in the show ring it is sometimes difficult to get the correct look. In the battle to get the dog to show happily he can become excited. If the eyes are there the face usually looks right.
Undoubtedly, in some of the larger classes, really good dogs went cardless. It was an honest opinion and I thank exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their beautiful dogs.

1st Gamble’s Loranka’s Stardom
Smashing little B/T of ideal make and shape. Aged nearly 8 years. Sweet head and expression. Super topline and tail carriage. He has less coat than he had when I made him BIS a few years ago but has retained his delightful showmanship.
2nd Mynott’s Honeybet My Way
Richly coloured Ruby who looks fabulous for his nearly 9 years. Nice size. He has a lovely face and attractive head. Lovely topline and tailset and he showed well.
3rd Gow’s Lyncraeg Dream Angus ShCM
7 year old well balanced, richly coloured, Blenheim with super pigment for his age who has retained his zest for life and happy showmanship. A dog who makes one smile!

Special Puppy (15, 1)
1st King-Smith’s Ispahan Sea The Stars
Promising young dog who is balanced and has a lovely outline which he retains on the move, where he presents a very positive reach of forequarters and drive from the rear. Good straight & profuse coat. He showed really well – very attentive and wagging his tail. His head is exactly right for his age and his eyes are dark, large and black rimmed.
2nd Cunningham’s Verheyen Garrick
Another very promising Blenheim boy with a positive outline and beautifully balanced. He too showed well and did all his owner asked. He has all the right attributes and at the moment is just that bit more "gangly" and not as together as the winner.
3rd Hunter’s Spennithorne Dream Thyme
Square little tricolour, quite heavily marked but giving a pleasing, shiny, impression. Nice head. He seemed to be not an easy dog to handle – having a mind of his own – but his handler coped admirably. My notes say "a satisfying dog".

Special Junior (18, 1)
1st Finlay’s Ellemich Joe Malone at Marisk JW
An easy winner in this class. He has big eyes with a good expression and an attractive head. Good size and with a lovely silky coat. Well marked and beautifully presented – he has glamour in spades (though the standard doesn’t ask for glamour – merely grace.) Constructed well and a lovely shape. Moved with aplomb.
2nd Rayner’s Trirayne Captain Scott JW
Lovely compact, happy dog with good balance. Moved well and very much in tune with his handler. Attractive head and expression. A nice dog to go over, he has nothing to distract one’s eye as he fits together very well.
3rd Bindelli’s Chantismere Chatahoochee
A very neat – although possibly slightly feminine – little dog with a smashing coat, beautifully presented. Very well handled to show off his good points. His eyes could be larger though they could improve with age.
Res Chambers’ Avalcier Isaac at Georgewade
VHC Sedgbeer’s Russmic Morgen
Yearling (17, 2) The decision between the first two dogs in this class was very close as both were totally unexaggerated.
1st Inglis’ Ch Craigowl Out Of The Blue
A well balanced and well marked tricolour of ideal size who showed steadily. He has a lovely face with large dark eyes giving such an attractive expression and plenty of filling without being too short in foreface. Extremely well presented and handled. His owner humoured me and showed him on a relatively loose lead (I do wish more owners would train their dogs to show on a loose lead)
2nd Vella’s Cinderaic Seduction JW
A Blenheim dog I have admired from the ringside. He has a beautiful outline with a profuse flat, silky coat of a good rich colour. Lovely head and large dark eyes giving a sweet expression. Very good topline and tailset. He looked great moving round the ring. Very animated and responsive to his handler.
3rd Whitney’s Loranka’s A Miracle at Dialstone
A nicely balanced tri of good size. A very pretty head and attractive expression which slightly larger eyes would improve. He is a typical example of the breed and one to have fun with.

1st Smith & Aldous’ Aranel Colby
Beautiful little dog who is a lovely shape and has good shoulders. Very well broken Blenheim. His coat is of great quality and he was immaculately presented. I would like slightly bigger eyes but he has an attractive expression in a good head. He moved briskly and willingly and kept his shape on the move.
2nd Kavelaars-Van Loenhout’s Periwinkle Fairy V’T Burgstse Hof
Balanced and well made Blenheim, very stylish in outline and impressive on the move. Attractive head and although he shows slight white of eye it does not detract from his expression. Expertly handled to show off his virtues. Would that everybody realised how much handling matters.
3rd Boardman’s Volney Blackberry
B/T who won this place on the super movement his owner insists upon. He has a sweet face and expression in a good head. He is well constructed but could do with a little more coat.

1st Levy, Sedgwick, Cline & Puenchalard’s Pascavale Jacob
Blenheim with a wonderful outline. He had to win this class as he is so correct and all things are in the right place. Handled sensitively to bring all his really great points to the fore. He is a true toy spaniel and I think will look even better with maturity. I loved his head and expression and predict a very good future.
2nd Betts’ Kaidee Jasper Karrot at Shelpet
Slightly larger balanced blenheim who was very well handled. He has the most lovely face. Also a spot (Quite rare in this entry). He showed and moved really well.
3rd Rhodes’ Calonlan Will I Am
Yet another Blenheim who is improving with maturity. Good shape and he has a lovely outline and a well presented coat. Although he shows white of eye it doesn’t detract too much. Moved OK.

1st Hughes’ Stonepit Heaven Sent to Loranka
A Blenheim who filled my eye. Not exaggerated in any way and moved with verve. Correct in all departments from his beautiful head and super construction to a well broken and well presented coat. He has a happy disposition and takes everything in his stride. I think he will go on to greater things.
2nd Hill & Webber’s Montcolly Jeffrey
Another very correct and well made Blenheim who, when he moved round the ring, used every muscle. You could see how they co-ordinated. Well broken coat markings completed the picture.
3rd Searle’s Stonepit Franco I Believe
A crisply marked, well broken, tricolour who, when I turned round and saw him on the table I thought would win the class. Perfect size and well made with a sweet head and expression. He moved reluctantly and didn’t stride out, so lost out to the 2 outstanding movers who ended above him.

1st Carthy’s Nightingale Golden Ticket at Ardgrove
Blenheim with a steady but energetic personality who showed well. The more I looked at him the more I saw to like. He has balance and a good outline in spite of a slightly woolly coat. He has a good rapport with his handler and a wish to please. Really sweet expression in a good head.
2nd Mynott’s Honeybet Magic Touch
Well marked tricolour with a very positive outline. Well constructed and a balanced shape he showed with more enthusiasm than I have sometimes seen him use. He is eye-catching and commands respect purely for his breed type. Good coat and well presented.
3rd Sedgbeer’s Russmic Marley
B/T of pleasing square shape. He moved around the ring with composure and at one with his handler. Could do with a little more coat.

1st Koster’s Harana Alfie Boe
B/T who has plenty of flat coat beautifully presented. He won here because of his lovely face, clear cut outline and attractive personality and he was in tune with his owner. He moved competently and looked good going round the ring. Standing he can sometimes look unbalanced until with a twitch on the lead he looks OK. A quality dog.
2nd Li’s Avalcier Harvard JW
Sweet Blenheim with lots of coat again very well presented. He has a clean cut outline and is balanced. Pretty head with good pigment and long ears. At times today he looked a little wild eyed which was a pity. He must always be in contention.
3rd Mangham’s Garlouchi Just Magic of Charnavale JW
This dog is the shape I was looking for. In profile, going round the ring, he pleased my eye as he kept a level topline and drove from his hocks. He has an attractive head but I would like bigger eyes. Well broken markings completed the picture.

Who is what I was searching for. A good example of a cavalier dog. Not overdone in any way he has huge, round, dark eyes with a lovely expression and very black eye rims. He is a compact size and is well balanced. Rich red colour and positive outline. He showed with enthusiasm and panache. Moved with a positive action and freshness. Very well presented rich red coat. CC and with the willing agreement of my co judge, Best of Breed.
2nd The Late Mrs Waters’ Ch Maibee Make Believe
I love this dog.I have seen him power round the ring as though floating on air driving off his hocks and keeping his immaculate topline and outline. Today he still had that but not the enthusiasm. He moved willingly, but ordinarily, because he wanted to please his owner and do what he was asked. A great dog in my mind, I do hope he gets his flamboyance back, perhaps he should associate with his Group Winning Charlie friend who had it in profusion. Res CC

Bitches Mr K Town (Barsac)
Having looked forward to this fantastic show for more than four years since I was first asked to do it, the day itself turned out to be even more amazing than I had expected. Quality was superb. In every class I found at least one feminine, pretty, soundly made bitch of good type and in some classes a lot more than one. I loved my final line up.
On a sadder note I thought of Shealagh Waters who was my original co-judge. Instead of judging Shealagh left her mark in a different and very thrilling way when Ch Maibee Theo became the first "Charlie" to win the Toy Group here.
Thanks to my two excellent stewards. All joint decisions were happily agreed.
