1st Greenall’s Charalier Dress To The Nines for Charlesworth
Exciting Blenheim dog which took my eye as soon as he entered the ring. Quality typical Cavalier head with the correct high ear carriage and with just the right level of cushioning and no tendency to be cheeky. Dark eye with gentle expression framed by long ears. He handled on the table so well, with an excellent neck and shoulder, short-coupled back with good spring of rib, level topline and well turned stifles. Moved gracefully and well both ways and just did not stop showing to go on to win the CC and Best Dog. Fits the standard so well. Fearless and joyful. His 2nd Challenge Certificate I understand.

Bitches Mrs A Jones (Timsar)
I considered it an honour and a privilege to be invited to judge at this prestigious show for which I thank the Crufts committee. My sincere thanks also to my stalwart stewards Roy Wilkinson and Richard Cornaby who can be relied on at all times to keep things moving smoothly. Most importantly I thank the exhibitors who mostly accepted my decisions in a sporting manner. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and was spoilt for choice and thus splitting hairs in some classes. I have neither judged nor exhibited regularly for some time so most of the bitches were new to me and some classes particularly veteran, puppy and open were a joy to judge. I thought the overall quality of the entry today was very good and bodes well for the future. However I was surprised to find several undershot bites in the middle order classes – forgivable perhaps in a puppy whose development is not finished but surely not in an adult when the breed standard asks for a scissor bite. Also there were some obviously trimmed feet. Finally, I fail to understand why anyone would bring a dog that had not been bathed to any championship show however the colour of my hands on the completion of judging proves that some do!

Veteran (23 Entries 3 Absent) What a lovely class to start the day, headed by –
1st Sansom’s Ch Byermoor Queens Maid JW
8 year old richly marked Blenheim so typical of this kennel. Large dark round eyes and excellent pigment. Well set on ears with long feathering giving the soft gentle expression I was looking for. Arched neck leading into well laid shoulders, good spring of ribs, short loin. Well angulated rear with short well let down hocks which she used to good effect when moving.
2nd Claydon’s Brymarden Moonriver JW
10 year old Blenheim out of a slightly larger mould than 1. Pleasing head almost flat between the ears and soft expression. Coat of the correct silky quality. Moved very well maintaining a level top line at all times with excellent drive from the rear. I placed her dam aged 13 4th in this strong class and feel that their owners are to be complimented on the well-muscled condition (sadly lacking in many today) in which both of their exhibits were presented.
3rd McMurray’s Merryoth Maeve
Almost 10 year old Tricolour who I have judged before. Short compact little bitch with rich tan in all the correct places. Pretty head and expression. Moved well maintaining a level top line but did not have the rear drive today of those above her.

Interestingly when checking in my catalogue later I see all three have the same sire.
Res Claydon’s Rippleoak River Dancer
VHC Conneally’s Ch Coedgwylum Hot Flame
Special Puppy (27, 5)
1st Inglis, Kirschbaum & Vorderstrasse’s Bonitos Companeros Crystal
11 month old Blenheim in good coat for her age of the correct silky quality. Well broken markings. Large dark eyes and good eye and jet black nose pigment. Well balanced head almost flat between the ears, sufficient cushioning under the eyes and tapered muzzle of the correct length. Lovely arched neck leading into well laid shoulders. Short coupled and well angulated rear which she used to good effect. In the challenge for best puppy bitch I was splitting hairs but I felt that she presented a slightly more balanced picture and showed with that extra bit of "verve". My co-judge Mrs Reddaway agreed that she should be BPIB.
2nd King-Smith’s Ispahan Blue Bunting
Very similar in type to 1 – soft gentle expression, excellent reach of neck, nice spring of rib and short coupled. Well presented coat in good condition and moved well.
3rd Owen’s Narayden Roseabella
Ruby bitch with dark round eyes and black eye rims and nose pigment. Sufficient cushioning under her eyes for her age and nicely tapered muzzle giving the soft expression so difficult to achieve in a wholecolour. Good spring of rib short loin and well angulated rear which enabled her to move with drive.

Blenheim with rich well broken markings. Large round expressive eyes, dark pigmentation and nicely tapered muzzle. Short coupled and well angulated front and rear. Well let down hocks which she used to good effect when moving maintaining a level top line at all times. Stood four square and "showed her socks off" in this class.
2nd Li’s Avalcier Angel JW
Very slightly longer cast than 1 but never the less a quality bitch. As required had dark round eyes and excellent nose pigment. Well laid back shoulders, spring of rib. Well angulated rear and moved well. Did not give of her best when standing perhaps due to a different handler.
3rd Callaghan & Todd’s Tillashby Northern Star at Callyspride JW

1st Sansom’s Byermoor Princess
Short coupled richly marked Blenheim with the correct silky quality. Dark round eye giving a soft expression. Personally I would have liked a touch more length of muzzle but her overall virtues earned her this class. Move well using her short well let down hocks to good effect. Well muscled as one would expect from this kennel.
2nd Vella’s Cinderaic Only Way Is Essex
Pretty head and expression. A touch longer in loin than 1 with a good lay of shoulder and well angulated front and rear. Moved out well with enthusiasm and showing plenty of drive from the rear maintaining a level top line.
3rd Levy, Sedgwick, Cline & Puenchalard’s Pascavale Annalisa
Glamorous Blenhein with rich markings. Pretty head with large expressive dark eyes framed by well set ears. Good lay of shoulders and depth of brisket. Nice spring of rib and well angulated throughout. Moved out well with plenty of drive maintaining a level top line and correct tail set on the move. Lack of attention on the part of the handler cost this little bitch a higher placing.

Open (16, 1) I was spoilt for choice in this excellent class of high quality bitches with many on another day being "in the cards". I just wish that the committee would consider bringing back the extra placings that were there in the past.
1st Levy, Sedgwick, Cline & Harrison’s Am Ch Bentwood Chloe Of Forestcreek
Ultra feminine Blenheim with a profuse amount of silky coat that was of good colour and well broken markings which was beautifully presented without a hair out of place. Dark round eyes with black eye rims and jet black nose. Sufficient cushioning under the eyes and a correctly tapered muzzle. When she used her ears they framed her face to present the soft gentle expression that I was looking for. Long crested neck, well laid shoulders, deep brisket, sufficient spring of rib, well angulated rear and well set on tail. Good round bone. When moving she moved parallel both coming and going and in profile presented an elegant outline with her tail coming straight off her back. Not yet fully mature I think the best is yet to come however, I was delighted to award her first CC and my co-judge conceded that she should go BOB and represent the breed in the group.
2nd Surman’s Ch Cavaliegh Jaida with Vallender JW
Well known Blenheim with well broken markings who like many had left some of her coat at home but therefore had nothing to hide. I must admit that as a youngster I thought with her profuse coat she was "up to size" for me, today I was proved wrong and just goes to show how wrong you can be when judging from the ring side! Behind her pretty head and soft expression and good pigment was a well constructed little bitch with good reach of neck, well laid shoulders, good deep brisket and spring of rib, level top line and strong well muscled hindquarters which she used to good effect going round the ring. Res CC
3rd Maclennan’s Gentlelines Cosmetic JW
