Dogs **
It was a pleasure to judge dogs at The Scottish Cavalier Club and my thanks go to the committee for the invitation and also their wonderful hospitality. Thanks also to the exhibitors for their entries.
From my line up, I shortlisted 4 for further consideration, Kilcoyne’s Ch Granasil Bourbon, Ryan’ Harana Pinball Wizard, Spall & Clark’s Llapsttam’s Heavenly Scent & Lewis’ Carleeto Cutie Pie JW — surprisingly, all wholecolours and all worthy of winning the CC. I awarded the CC to Ch Granasil Bourbon, the RCC to Harana Pinball Wizard & Best Puppy Dog to Rathbridge Rewrite The Stars.
The Referee was called to decided on BOB, who awarded it to the bitch, Arrowbien Funny Girl.

Baby Puppy (1 Entry, 0 Absent)
1st Linton’s Thekop’s You Little Charmer
A real baby as you’d expect. Blenheim. Head almost flat between the ears, dark eyes and correct bite. Enough neck, richly coloured coat and well carried tail. Elbows need to tighten. Happy, showy temperament.
Veteran (10, 2)
1st Fraser’s Lewis’s Leonardo at Fraskye
8 yrs Black & Tan. Attractive lad, unexaggerated in head with dark, round eyes. Good shoulder placement & upper arm angulation. Well covered body, short coupled, neat shape. Happy, outgoing temperament and moved well. Liked him.
2nd Taylor’s Lorankas Moonlight Shadow
8yrs Blenheim. Decent headpiece with skull almost flat between the ears. Large dark eyes. Richly coloured coat which was well marked. Well sprung rib. His condition and presentation were excellent. Bigger made than 1 and not as proficient behind as the winner.

Special Vintage (1, 0)
1st Winning’s Narayden Black Coffee
11 yrs Black & Tan. Attractive head with large, soulful dark eyes, rich tan markings. Good bone. Coat rather wooley, likely due to being castrated.
Minor Puppy (7, 0)
1st Linton’s Thekop’s Si Sinor
Almost 7 mths Black & Tan. Quality baby, all there in neatness but still with scope. Pretty head with large, dark, round eyes, good bite and lovely large teeth. Very good in shoulder and upper arm angulation. Plenty heart room, straight front end, well sprung rib & short coupling. Moved well both ways and in profile. Very Promising I thought.
2nd Maclaine & Vella’s Lochbuie Goldman Sachs
7 mths Blenheim, very much a baby. Less forward in head than the winner but he’s got plenty time. Dark eyes and good bite. Very good in neck & upper arm. Good heart room in front, nicely shaped rib. Well marked with plenty coat for his age. Moved well coming and going, with a well carried tail. Will be interested to see how he develops.

1st Conlon & Kotani’s Rathbrist Rewrite The Stars
10 mth Blenheim. Pretty headed young boy with dark lustrous eyes, plenty filling under them, darkly pigmented nose & eye rims. Well sprung rib covered in a richly coloured, plentiful coat. The right amount of leg to give him balance. Moved straight coming and going and had plenty of style in profile. Another very promising puppy. Best Puppy Dog & Best Puppy In Show.

Junior (5,2)
1st Mackenzie’s Carsan Hot An Tasty
Upstanding young dog of 14 mths. Attractive boy who was good for size & neatness of shape. Skull almost flat between the ears, large, round eyes and a soft expression. Very Good in rib and forechest, short coupled in loin and with a glamorous, straight coat coming. He had a well carried tail and his rear movement was a joy to watch. Still needs to tighten a bit in front. Nice boy.
2nd McKeracher’s Brymarden Cool Breeze
Blenheim just over 12 mths. Another with a pretty head, large dark, expressive eyes which gave a very soft expression. Correct bite. Well laid shoulders. A little narrow all through for me and up to size but presented in very good condition.
3rd Bloice’s Scotlass Bennyhill
Yearling (6, 0)
1st Walker’s Carsan Richie Rich
14 mth Tricolour. Another whose size and “neatness” I liked. Attractive head, not overdone in any way. Round, dark eyes and rich tan markings in all the right places. Correct bite. Well sprung rib and short coupling. He has an excellent tricolour coat — jet black with no brown fluffy tinges to it, straight and shining. Immaculately presented and in top condition. A quality lad.
2nd Hamilton & Hogg’s Kringleholme Continental
17 mth Blenheim. Pretty head with skull almost flat between the ears. Large, round, dark eyes, plenty cushioning underneath. A correct scissor bite. Also liked his size. Well marked plentiful coat which was in good condition. Just needs to fill in body but that will come in time no doubt.

Maiden (2, 0)
1st Maclaine & Vella’s Lochbuie Julius Baer
Only 6½ mths blenheim baby. Very pretty face with dark, round, expressive eyes, black nose & eye rims. Well ribbed for his age. In very good coat, which could be slightly darker but that didn’t detract from his obvious quality. A happy, showy, outgoing baby who moved round the ring like he’d done it for years. Very promising.
2nd Bloice’s Scotlass Bennyhill
Tricolour who had a very good shape in profile. His head has plenty to do development wise but he had rich tan markings, dark eyes, which could’ve been bigger and a correct bite. Very unsure in his environment.

Quality Black & Tan. Head still maturing but with lots to like about it. Dark eyes, correct bite, well set ears. Good neck and well placed shoulders and well sprung rib. Good quality straight, jet black coat which was in excellent condition and beautifully presented. Liked his size and shape and he made a nice picture going round. Unlucky to meet 1 today.

Liked his size. Excellent coat colour which was straight and sleek and in top condition. Attractive head which is still maturing. Dark expressive eyes, black nose pigment and correct bite. Well laid shoulders, showing off his good neck. Level topline on the move and straight coming and going. Slightly longer cast than 1. Quality ruby boy, unlucky to meet 1 today.

1st Finlay-Kirkwood’s Owencurra Tremdous at Marisk (IKC)
Black & Tan. Very pretty in head, large dark eyes, rich tan, correct scissor bite, head well filled without being over the top. Good earset which he used to his advantage. A small but well formed package, good rib, short coupled and balanced. Showy in temperament. Didn’t care for his tail carriage on the day but his overall type and temperament couldn’t won the day.
2nd Hood’s Rabymar New York
Larger ruby but pleasant for type. Good earset, large eyes, well bodies and in gleaming coat. Moved well. Another with a tail I’d have preferred carried lower.
3rd Fraser’s Bracken Gold at Fraskye
Res Byers’ Bonniemadra Ricochet to Linetive
Special Post Graduate (Whole Colour) (3, 0)
1st Lewis’ Carleeto Cutie Pie JW
Glamorous Ruby with lots to like about him. Attractive head with large, dark, round eyes and correct bite. Good lay of shoulder and length of upper arm. Well sprung rib and short coupling. Straight, silky coat, enough in quantity and beautifully presented. Moved around with good head carriage into a level topline. Straight coming towards, a little close behind. Undeniable quality and shortlisted into my final 4 for top honours.
2nd Linton’s Thekop’s Black’n Gold
Black and Tan. Also with a good head, large, dark, round eyes and correct bite. Rich tan on a jet black coat. Longer in body than 1, upsetting the balance in profile. Moved well both ways.
3rd Hood’s Rabymar New York
Special Post Graduate (Parti Colour) (2, 1)
1st Gow’s Lyncraeg Little Pip
Pretty headed blenheim in a neat package. Lustrous dark eyes, just enough cushioning underneath. Well sprung rib into short coupled body and he was in good coat and condition. Moved true coming and going but a little disjointed in profile movement on the day.
Limit (8, 0)
1st Ryan’s Harana Pinball Wizard
Black & Tan. Attractive head with skull almost flat between the ears. Round dark eyes and correct scissor bite. Good neck into well laid shoulders and well sprung rib. Short in coupling and of good balance in profile. A very glamorous straight, silky, jet black coat which was presented in top notch condition. He looked a picture moving round with his wonderful head carriage, level topline and good tail carriage. Still young with some maturing to do but couldn’t deny him a well deserved Reserve CC.
2nd Taylor’s Luvtayls Newsflash
Blenheim, heavier overall in type. Well sprung rib and good bone. Glamorous coat of a rich colour which was well presented. When viewed in profile he had good balance.

Special Open Dog (Whole Colour) (6, 0)
1st Kilcoyne’s Ch Granasil Bourbon
Ruby boy that I’ve judged as a youngster, now at his very best. Lovely headpiece, with dark, round, expressive eyes and dark pigment. Muzzle well filled under the eyes and a correct scissor bite. Well angulated in shoulder and upper arm. In body he was in perfect condition, with just the right amount of richly coloured, straight, silky coat covering his well sprung ribs. Short in coupling and balanced in profile. Today, he went round the ring on a mission, with stylish head carriage, firm, level topline and well carried tail. On form today, couldn’t deny him the CC. Lovely boy from the top drawer. Later awarded BOS & RBIS on the referee’s decision.
2nd Spiers’ Narayden Ben Hur for Caramoone
Smaller black and tan with lots to like about him. Pretty head with soft expression coming from large, dark, round eyes. Correct bite. Good spring of rib on his well covered body. Good tail carriage and he moved correctly both coming and going.

1st Spall & Clark’s Llapsttam’s Heavenly Scent
Another glamorous ruby boy. Pleasing head with, undeniably the best eyes of the day, large, dark, round with dark rims and the softest expression. Dark nose pigment and correct scissor bite. Correct shoulder placement giving that elegant neckline. Well sprung rib and firm level topline. Beautifully presented straight, silky coat in sparkling condition. Moved particularly well in front. Going round, another one with that stylish posture that I love. Undeniable quality. Shortlisted for further consideration.
2nd Rees’ Ch Embeth Rock The Boat
Blenheim. Quality boy with attractive head that had a skull almost flat between the ears, dark eyes, dark pigment and correct bite. Neat in shape with well sprung rib and short coupling. Richly coloured coat in beautiful condition and presented to perfection. Went very well today, just preferred the expression of 1.

Bitches Miss A Walker (Kayceekay)
I would like to thank Mrs Smith, the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this show. It was an honour to be invited to judge a Cavalier Club show. Thank you to the exhibitors who brought the cavaliers for me to judge. I had two excellent stewards in Pamela Martin and Linda Bibby. It takes a lot of work to hold a show and having such wonderful comments on how everyone enjoyed such a friendly show it is a credit to the SCKCSC committee.
My Co-judge on the day was ** and although we didn’t agree on every placing and needed Mr Smith, the Referee, to decide on some awards, we were in complete agreement on two of the places for Best Puppy in Show and Best Veteran in Show. From the line up of class winners, I short listed for further consideration Open Bitch, Limit Bitch, Special Post Graduate (Whole Colour) and Junior Bitch. My BCC winner was Arrowsmith-Vorderstrasse’s Arrowbien Funny Girl and on the Referees decision she was awarded Best in Show. Reserve Best in Show on the Referee’s decision was Kilcoyne’s Ch Granasil Bourbon, a dog to whom I have awarded a DCC in the past, so obviously I liked him. Ireland’s Charnell Here Comes Summer was RBCC. Best Puppy Bitch was Conlon & Kotani Rathbrist A Million Dreams, her litter brother Rathbrist Rewrite The Stars with full agreement was Best Puppy In Show. Best Veteran Bitch and Best Veteran In Show with full agreement was Lewis’ Carleeto Satine. Scott’s Toscam McKayla was Special Vintage Bitch.

Baby Puppy (3 Entries, 1 Absent) This class is an innovation by the Kennel Club and I found it a difficult class to judge as both of the puppies were lacking in confidence and carriage. This was not how I had imagined the day to start. Neither of these litter sisters were able to walk round the ring or stand on the table so assessment was neigh impossible. Two tricolour litter sisters 5 months old. I hope they will learn to enjoy their careers in the ring. I placed them based on my hands on examination.

2nd Chapman’s Kinvaar Raindrops On Roses at Daltonian
Blenheim 7 years old with a lovely happy personality. Flat skull, dark eyes and long ear leathers. Level topline when moving but not the front action of the winner.
Special Vintage (2, 0) This was an excellent class of two 11 -year-old bitches who are a credit to their owners.
1st Scott’s Toscam Mckayla
Tri colour who was blanketed in body colour and had a very full coat. She still has full dentition, lovely long ears and had a very sweet expression with correct tri markings on her face. She moves very well round the ring. Her tail never stopped wagging the whole time, she obviously still loves her time in the ring.
2nd Fox’s Lewharle Izzadorable for Lynmily
Blenheim who had equally as much coat. Attractive soft expression with large dark eyes. Good head shape with correct length of stop. Not as forward on the move as the winner and was moving closer behind.
Minor Puppy (7, 0) This was a lovely class with some quality puppies.
1st Kerr’s Kinvaar Pinky Promise
Blenheim 6 months old. Lovely broken coat. She had to sweetest expression with large dark eyes, correct length of muzzle and dark pigmentation. Her owner moved her correctly round the ring, letting her show off her shape and movement. She is a very promising puppy.
2nd Lewis’ Carleeto Red Velvet
Ruby 6 months another promising puppy. She had a lovely expression with dark eyes. She had a correct skull and high set ears. Another handler who let the puppy show themselves off whilst moving round the ring. She moved with that excited puppy movement with a level topline.

Open (7, 1) I had a very difficult decision between the first two in this class.
1st Arrowsmith-Vorderstrasse’s Arrowbien Funny Girl
Blenheim 2 years old. I was very surprised by this bitch. She was my BCC winner from a strong line up. She was presented in fabulous condition, pearl white coat with rich chestnut, well broken and full furnishings. She had too much coat for my personal preference but once I got my hands on her, I was blown away by her construction. She had a beautiful face with large dark eyes, full dentition and plenty of cushioning under the eyes to give the soft expression. Lovely neck and shoulders into straight front, level topline and her tail set is correct. She has good parallel movement with drive from behind. I enjoyed watching her move in the challenges, and there were a few! I understand that she gained her title, I was unaware, but can understand how other judges felt the same as me.
2nd Conlon & Kotani’s Ch, Ir Ch Rathbrist Whatchulookinat
Blenheim nearly 4 years old. This was a close decision as she too was a beautiful bitch, presented immaculately, pearl white coat, rich chestnut, dark pigment and dark eyes.
