Dogs Mrs R Rowley (Choya)
Firstly, I would like to thank the officers and committee of the Cavalier club for the opportunity to judge the males at this prestigious show. I always find it privilege to judge a breed club show and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. My thanks to my husband who stewarded for me and kept the ring moving in a professional and timely manner. I was looking for a toy spaniel who fitted the kennel club breed standard and I was lucky enough to find something that fulfilled this in every class. On the downside, I was dismayed at the condition of some of the dogs, very dirty teeth, which will give way to premature tooth losses. Dogs that looked like a good groom and bath would have made a lot of difference, thankfully this was the minority. I find the habit of shovelling food into your dog’s mouth as the judge is trying to go over them very disconcerting, discreet baiting I can understand but there were times when it was almost impossible to view the dogs expression and head features on the table past a handful of treats.

Baby Puppy (4 Entries, 0 Absent) A class of promising babies all enjoying their day out, experiencing the ring.
1st Nolan’s Jernito All On Red
Heavy marked Blenheim boy of almost 6 months, lovely shape short and square with very pretty head and soft expression. Coat coming in nicely although lots of baby fluff at the moment. Looks very promising. In full agreement with my Co judge BBP.
2nd Wilkins & Wilcock’s Tebaldi Bohemian Rhapsody
Ruby boy five months old, not as mature as one rightly so being so much younger. Another pretty head with good dark eyes, not as confident as one on the move.
3rd Jackson’s Verheyen Cantona at Fortunamajor NAF TAF
Veteran (4, 0)
1st Bloomfield’s Delhaze Reach For The Sky with Oaklake JW
Handsome Blenhem boy with well broken coat masculine head with lovely dark eye, really nice to go over and moved confidently and correctly. Well handled to get the best out of him.
2nd Hamilton & Hogg’s Kilbarchan’s Moonwalker at Hamhoggs VW
Blenheim of 10½ years shown in wonderful condition for his age, movement not as sound as it would’ve been a few years ago but good job well done.
3rd Wragg’s Jomaki Gospel Bill
Res Hobbs’ Beaconsfylde Catch The Kiss JW ShCM VW
Minor Puppy (6, 2)
1st Hartill-Speak & Jackson’s Fortunamajor Resurrection under Gracewincavs
Almost 9 months Blenheim with a well broken jacket head needs to fill as would be expected but looking good for age nice dark eyes short and square body move soundly with confidence.
2nd Nolan’s Jernito King Of Hearts
Six months Blenheim baby of correct size make and shape, lovely compact square body giving sound movement front and back. Coat difficult to assess as just a bundle of fluff today hopefully colour will darken as he loses this.
3rd Cox’s Emberlace Harry
Res Bennett’s Charnavale Touch Of Charm at Remmya
Puppy (4, 1)
1st Lovel’s Lovetrac Beckham
Loved this Blenheim of 10 months beautiful head with large round dark eyes given the softest expression, as would be expected still needs fill under the eyes but absolutely right for age. Wonderful well broken silky coat coming in nicely. Moved straight and true both front and rear, an exciting prospect. My Best Puppy Dog and in agreement with my co judge Best Puppy in Show. I foresee a bright future. BPD, BP
2nd Spall &7 Clark’s Llapsttam Techno Notice
Another really nice puppy, black and tan shown in sparkling condition with wonderful coat coming in. Excellent head shape with large dark eyes Cobby square body with good angles all round, a little proud of his tail on the move.

ideal sized Blenheim coat of the richest colour masculine head with good dark eye scored in top line and tail set cobby and square body moving soundly all directions.

Yearling (4, 1)
1st Levy & Sedgwick’s Pascavale Banksy
Beautifully presented Blenheim, in full silky coat. Masculine but pretty head with large dark round eyes, moderate neck with well laid shoulders rock solid top line held on the move. Every inch a Showman put down in tip top condition.
2nd Spall & Clark’s Llapsttam Luther Vandross JW
Richly coloured Ruby unlucky to meet one much the same remarks apply thought on the day one just had that little extra. I’m sure these two will change places many times.
3rd Kerr’s Caramoone Canadian Club at Kinvaar
Novice (8, 3)
1st Bloomfield’s Oaklake Limitless
Very heavily marked Tri although it is said markings are only cosmetic I would like to see better distribution of white in coat, all that said he has a nice head with excellent eyes. He was the soundest mover in the class.
2nd Rees’ Jamesbonny Sail Away by Embeth
Blenheim who did nothing to help himself, really gave his handler a hard time. Such a shame as he is a very promising boy with a good head and excellent eyes and if he gets his act together he could do well, just not his day.

Res Rathbone & Pal’s Brymarden Flawless Blush
Mid Limit (10, 2)
1st Searle’s Stonepit Into The Blue
Richly coloured Blenheim, shown in wonderful coat and condition. Not a flashy boy and has to be handled to be appreciated. He caught my eye from every direction and once on the table, I knew why. He has a glorious head with good eyes and ear placement good neck with well laid shoulders, level top line with good straight front and well angulated rear. Moved true in all directions and in my final lineup he continued to catch my eye and never seemed to put a foot wrong could not deny him the RCC.
2nd Rhodes’ Calonlan Zeus JW
Heavy marked Tri, with rich tan markings in all the right places, shown in gleaming condition. Pleasing head with large round dark eyes and well set ears, held his firm top line on the move.

A quality Blenheim well worthy of his title, loved his size make and shape, pleasing head with excellent eyes level topline held on the move, another presented to perfection and a solid showman. Could do to teach his younger kennel mate a lesson on how to do it.
2nd Barwell’s Charlottetown Golden Touch
Blen of nice size and type, good shape but not the movement of first.
3rd Lunt’s Oaktreepark Royal Austin
Open (7, 1) My notes for this class read Wow, clash of the titans.

Here was everything in one package that I was looking for. Masculine but pretty head with large round dark eyes giving the softest expression, well set ears, excellent neck and shoulders, level topline and perfectly set tail held on the move. He continued to impress me on the move and in the final line up I just could not find anything to pass him. Delighted to award him the CC and on the Referee’s decision BIS.
2nd Chapman & Ireland’s Ch Ellemich American Express<
Such a successful and well known Blenheim I feel that no accolade I could give him will not already have been given. The rapport and love between him and his handler is just amazing to see. On another day the results will swap around of that I have no doubt.

Bitches Mrs P Ayres (Brookhaven – USA)
I would like to thank the Cavaliers King Charles Spaniel Club, UK for inviting me to judge their wonderful championship show in Staffordshire County. I have not visited the UK since COVID so many new dogs and so many new faces as well as some familiar ones. Everything ran very smoothly due to the efficiency of Show committee – Lucy Koster-Tindall and Elane Berwick. The details were perfect – Nothing left undone – Well Done Girls!
I would also like to thank the exhibitors for showing their lovely dogs. I was very pleased with the entry. I thought the quality overall was excellent. The majority of the dogs were so well presented and in great condition. One thing that comes to mind is the lovely eyes which are the window to the sole.
